Bioelectrical impedance vector analysis as an auxiliary method in diagnosing of sarcopenia among hospitalized older patients – a preliminary report
Conclusions BIVA is a valuable tool that may be used as an auxiliary method to verify the prevalence of sarcopenia among older women. Mismatched women were characterized with BIVA parameters similar to that of nonsarcopenic women and clearly different from BIVA parameters of their sarcopenic peers. Due to the small number of nonsarcopenic men in our sample further studies are required to verify if this method may also be an additional assessment tool for men. Association of “Controlling Nutritional Status Index” and “Prognostic Nutritional Index” with intensive care unit survival in elderly patients
Conclusion Both CONUT and PNI indexes seems associated with survival but only CONUT score provides statistically significant prognostic information and may serve as a cost-effective nutritional assessment tool in elderly patients. Because this association did not retain its significance on multivariate analysis, the validity of this index in elderly patients should be further evaluated by prospective studies including larger samples. The relationship of vitamin D with bone mineral density in Parkinson's disease patients
Conclusions This study demonstrated that PD patients had lower 25OHD levels and decreased BMD values compared to controls and detected significant association of 25OHD levels with BMD values. (Source: European Geriatric Medicine)
