[Are there any adverse effects of static magnetic field from magnetic resonance imaging devices on bone health of workers?].
CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, adverse effects of SMF from MRI devices on the bone health of MRI workers were detected for the first time. However, further multicenter studies and animal experiments are required to gain a better understanding of the mechanism that how the SMF affects bone health in chronic exposure. Rigid fixation of the lumbar spine alters the motion and mechanical stability at the adjacent segment level.
CONCLUSION: Rigid fixation of the lumbar spine altered the range of motion at the adjacent segment level. As such, abnormal stress on the adjacent segment causes spinal instability, which may subsequently cause facet joint degeneration and low back pain. [Biomechanical examination of patellar tendon ruptures repaired with a tendon graft: an experimental study].
CONCLUSION: Our study results showed that patellar tendon repair with grafting had a similar pullout force compared to other repair techniques. In case of a neglected rupture of the patellar tendon, in particular, grafting is recommended. PMID: 24650385 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

Do atypical femoral fractures in patients with prolonged alendronate treatment heal?
Authors: Atik OS, Oztürk AM, Kunat C, Cetinkaya M, Kaptan Y Abstract Osteoporosis, which is a major health problem, may have an adverse impact on the economic status of the society and the quality of the life of the patients. Long-term alendronate use may cause an increased susceptibility to fractures with an increased risk of delayed union. In this article, we describe two patients on long-term alendronate therapy which were treated for atypical femoral fractures healed with surgical treatment plus calcium, vitamin D support, and alendronate discontinuation. [Osteoblastoma in the os hamatum: a rare case report].
Authors: Ayan I, Serinsöz E Abstract Osteoblastoma in the os hamatum is rarely seen. Although curettage and grafting seems to be disadvantageous, it offers advantages in the functional protection in the treatment of carpal bone-located osteoblastoma. In a 39-year-old housewife who was admitted with painful left wrist through all day for the past one year, physical examination revealed painful hypothenar region with the wrist adduction to the ulna. Radiography showed radial inclination of the wrist, ring appearance in the scaphoid bone, and slight radiolucency in the hamatum and adjacent bones. Computed to...

Bilateral femoral neck insufficiency fractures in pregnancy.
Authors: Baki ME, Uygun H, Arı B, Aydın H Abstract Bilateral femoral neck insufficiency fracture due to osteomalacia in pregnancy is an extremely rare condition. In this article, we report a 22-year-old female case with bilateral femoral neck fractures in whom the diagnosis was delayed due to the avoidance of ionising radiation and managing hip complaints by conservatively in pregnancy. She was treated surgically with internal fixation using cannulated screws and received medical treatment for vitamin D deficiency. An investigation of consistency between posterior condylar axis +3 degree external rotation line and clinical transepicondylar axis line techniques in primary total knee arthroplasty.
CONCLUSION: For determination of femoral component rotation in surgery setting, different results between cTEA and PCA+3° ER techniques possibly may due to disadvantages of techniques and anatomic variation of distal femur. Thus, using both techniques to check each other's results seems unsafe. PMID: 25036391 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

The accuracy of two different extra-medullary tibial cutting guides for posterior tibial slope in total knee arthroplasty.
CONCLUSION: Although different extra-medullary tibial cutting guides with and without a spike can reproducibly impart a desired posterior tibial slope in TKA, we concluded that a spiked guide was considered user-friendly. The effect of early weight-bearing on comminuted calcaneal fractures treated with locking plates.
CONCLUSION: Based on radiographic and clinical assessment, there was no unfavorable effect of early weight-bearing after calcaneal fracture surgery. Therefore, these results suggest that sufficient stability can be achieved by locking plates in comminuted calcaneal fractures, when early weight-bearing is recommended, even. Collagen membrane wrapping around methotrexate-containing calcium-phosphate cement reduces the side effects on soft tissue healing.
CONCLUSION: Membrane wrapping around the CPC containing MTX reduces the side effect of MTX on cellular proliferation at its highest concentration, particularly. Membrane wrapping may allow administration of higher doses of an anti-neoplastic drug which can be more effective. PMID: 25036396 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)
