Prediction of postural sway velocity by foot posture index, foot size and plantar pressure values in unilateral stance.
CONCLUSION: The predictive value of FTA integral and SFS parameters for postural sway velocity is lower in unilateral stance. The postural sway velocity is rather associated with FPI and increases by pronation of the foot. PMID: 24191879 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

Management of tumors and tumor-like lesions of the hand: a review of 191 patients.
CONCLUSION: The incidence of benign tumors of the hand is higher than malignant tumors. Since hand tumors may affect several parts of the body, diagnosis and treatment are best provided through a multidisciplinary approach. [Measurement of screw length through drilling technique in osteosynthesis of the proximal humerus fractures].
CONCLUSION: Screw length measurement through the drilling technique significantly reduces the intraarticular screw penetration and fluoroscopy time in osteosynthesis of proximal humerus fractures using PHILOS plates. PMID: 24191881 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

[Determination of the effect on the proximal femoral load distribution of diaphyseal cement support in femoral intertrochanteric fractures with calcar defect by finite element analysis].
CONCLUSION: Our study results showed that forming a type of calcar to be used in a hemiarthroplasty surgery and shaping of this region with bone cement does not produce further stress on the cement/bone intersection in intertrochanteric fractures with defected calcar region. Total knee arthroplasty in ochronosis: a case report and critical review of the literature.
Authors: Ozmanevra R, Güran O, Karatosun V, Günal I Abstract Alkaptonuria is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by the deficiency of homogentisate 1.2 dioxygenase activity. The clinical presentation shows an ochronotic pigment which is deposited in all connective tissues, including in cartilage, particularly. The knee is the most common site of peripheral abnormality. There is currently no definitive cure for alkaptonuric ochronosis. In this article, we present a 69-year-old male case who underwent bilateral cemented total knee arthroplasty simultaneously. Our results during two-year follow-up were s...

Intrapelvic protrusion of the ceramic head resulting from forte ceramic liner fracture without a significant trauma: a case report.
Authors: Bekler HI, Erdağ Y, Ozşahin M Abstract In this article, we present a 48-year-old female case who had an unsuccessful previous forte ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty for early coxarthrosis secondary to acetabular dysplasia. She had fracture and protrusion of the ceramic liner through the titanium acetabular shell without any apparent trauma, possibly resulting from the mistake during the implantation of the ceramic liner into the metal shell in the initial operation. The patient had no other risk factors (component malposition, trauma, malalignment) for ceramic liner fracture. She underw...

Bilateral periprosthetic distal femoral fractures following total knee arthroplasty.
Authors: Ozcan O, Boya H, Ateş A, Doğruöz F Abstract Periprosthetic supracondylar femur fractures following total knee arthroplasty are infrequent, but challenging to clinicians. In this article, we present a 74-year-old female case of bilateral supracondylar femoral periprosthetic fractures which were treated with locking plates. The fractures were healed with osseous union, the range of motion was 0-110° for each knee, and there was a 6° residual varus deformity in the left knee. The functional results were excellent during two-year follow-up. Open reduction and locking plate fixation are effective ...

Solitary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the metacarpal.
Authors: Atalar H, Armangil M, Uzüm N, Sağlık Y Abstract Hemangioendotheliomas are vascular tumors which have an intermediate clinical behavior between hemangiomas and angiosarcomas. The epithelioid subtype of hemangioendothelioma, which is rarely seen in bone, has the potential to metastasize and may be confused radiologically with benign or malignant lesions. A metacarpal origin of this tumor is extremely rare. In this article, we present a 42-year-old female case with an hemangioendothelioma in the second metacarpal which was initially managed as a benign lesion before the patient was referred to our...

Vascular pedicled iliac bone grafting is effective in patients with an early stage of femoral head avascular necrosis.
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that core decompression and the vascular pedicled iliac bone grafting are effective in early stages of ANFH. PMID: 24650377 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

Further development of our finite element pelvic model to compare fixation methods for pelvic fractures.
CONCLUSION: Our new finite element pelvic model represents the pelvis more accurately than the former one. As the validation of the model was successful, it is suitable for computerized simulation of any kind of fractures offering reliable results. A comparison of proximal femoral locking plate versus 95-degree angled blade plate in the treatment of reverse intertrochanteric fractures.
CONCLUSION: Our study results show that these two fixation methods seem to produce similar results in the treatment of reverse intertrochanteric fractures with greater trochanteric comminution. However, we suggest that ABP still remains as a good choice with less expense in such fractures. PMID: 24650379 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

[Is non-vascularized autografting in the proximal scaphoid nonunions ineffective?].
CONCLUSION: We obtained no satisfactory results in patients treated with non-vascularized bone grafting and screw fixation for proximal scaphoid non-unions. We suggest that grafting should be carried out in selected cases due to the adverse effects of open techniques and bone grafting on vascularity of scaphoid bone. [How safe are orthoroentgenograms in determining the amount of correction for varus deformities?].
CONCLUSION: Our study results showed that the mean values of mechanical axis angle, anatomical axis and the joint line orientation angle were higher in orthoroentgenograms with the feet in contact than the orthoroentgenograms with the legs abducted in patients with varus gonarthrosis. We suggest that this may lead to mistakes in the preoperative planning. Ideal positions should be standardized to minimize possible problems. [How effective is in situ pinning with single screw fixation in mildly or moderately slipped capital femoral epiphysis?].
CONCLUSION: In this study, we obtained successful clinical and radiological results of fixation with in situ pinning in patients with chronic stable mildly or moderately slipped capital femoral epiphysis without reduction. There were no clinical signs related to arthrosis and impingement syndrome in mid-term follow-up. PMID: 24650382 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)
