Treatment of mixed type femoroacetabular impingement using safe surgical hip dislocation in adults.
CONCLUSION: Safe surgical hip dislocation procedure has a success rate of 77% after a mean follow-up of four years. Coxa profunda sign is associated with the unsatisfactory clinical outcome. Preoperative HHS of less than 60 points seems to be a negative predictive variable on the clinical outcome. PMID: 27902171 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

Is it easy to clinically distinguish inflammatory arthritis of bacterial origin from monoarthritis attacks of gout disease?
Authors: Atik OŞ, Ergişi Y, Ayanoğlu T, Tokgöz MA, Sezgin EA, Göçün PU Abstract Acute monoarthritis is a common situation in orthopedic emergency where the patient presents with typical inflamed joint. It is hard to clinically distinguish inflammatory arthritis of bacterial origin from monoarthritis attacks of gout disease. If these two situations, which are the most common causes of acute monoarthritis, are misdiagnosed, outcomes might be catastrophic and costly. Synovial fluid analysis is the most reliable method for confirming the diagnosis although it might not always lead to definitive diagnosi...

Escobar (multiple pterygium) syndrome: Multidisciplinary approach to a very rare syndrome.
In this report, we present the treatment management of a 14-year-old case with late stage Escobar syndrome who was admitted due to multiple pterygia and bilateral knee contractures. The treatment of this case was conducted in collaboration with the department of orthopedics and the department of physical therapy. The treatment of the case was done in three stages: soft tissue procedures, femoral recurvatum osteotomy and triple arthrodesis, respectively. In addition to all these, the patient did intensive physical therapy for one year. As a result of the operations and physical therapy, adequate muscle strength was obtained...

Total patellectomy for patellar aneurysmal bone cyst.
Authors: Çetinkaya M, Özer H, Selek HY, Erekul S Abstract Herein we report a case of patellar aneurysmal bone cyst of a 32-year-old female patient who was admitted to our outpatient clinic due to the swelling on her left knee. She was describing no trauma history but increasing pain and that the mass was expanding gradually by the time. Although it occurs rarely in patella, evaluation by radiographic and magnetic resonance images revealed that the mass was due to the patellar aneurysmal bone cyst, which also destructed the surface of the joint. Although there was no impairment in the range of motion of t...

Spontaneous and bilateral avascular necrosis of the navicula: M üller-Weiss disease.
Spontaneous and bilateral avascular necrosis of the navicula: Müller-Weiss disease. Eklem Hastalik Cerrahisi. 2016 Dec;27(3):179-82 Authors: Aktaş E, Ayanoğlu T, Hatipoğlu Y, Kanatlı U Abstract Although, trauma, foot deformity (pesplanovalgus), systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and lupus, drugs (steroids, antineoplastic) and excessive alcohol consumption have all been accused in the etiology of avascular necrosis of the tarsal bones, spontaneous avascular necrosis of the navicular bone, especially in adults, is a rare entity. In this article, we report a 50-year-old...

Is there crosstalk between subchondral bone, cartilage, and meniscus in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis?
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that degeneration of subchondral bone, cartilage, and meniscus probably plays a role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis with crosstalk. PMID: 27499316 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

Is axial shape of distal femur different in normal and osteoarthritic female patients?
CONCLUSION: This study showed that there are deformations in the axial shape of the distal femur in female patients with knee osteoarthritis. Further studies are required to determine whether these differences are important for implant design and surgical technique of total knee replacement. Comparison of the clinical and radiological outcomes of open reduction via medial and anterior approach in devleopmental dysplasia of the hip.
CONCLUSION: This study showed that open reduction via medial or anterior approach in DDH has similar clinical and radiological results, significant improvement was achieved in the acetabular index with both approaches, and no significant difference was present in the incidence of AVN and the need for revision surgery between the groups. Effect of ulnar styloid fracture on outcomes after conservative treatment of distal radius fracture.
CONCLUSION: Results of this study suggest that USF should not be the focus of attention during initial treatment of DRF and surgical intervention might be considered in case of an accompanying TFCC lesion. PMID: 27499320 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Eklem Hastaliklari ve Cerrahisi)

Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma of long bones: long-term follow-up.
CONCLUSION: Surgical excision with wide margins and adjuvant chemotherapy provided adequate control of the disease and longer survival. The only prognostic factor statistically significantly associated with duration of survival was surgical margins. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy may be used when there is a suspicion of not obtaining adequately wide surgical margin perioperatively due to close association with neurovascular structures. Painful, pediatric sacral aneurysmal bone cyst treated by curettage and fresh frozen allograft.
Authors: Aydın M, Toğral G, Kekeç F, Arıkan M, Güngör Ş Abstract In this article, we report a rarely localized sacral aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) successfully treated by curettage and bone grafting with fresh frozen fibular allograft (FFA) in a 14-year-old girl patient. The cyst was at S1-2 level and treated with aggressive curettage and bone grafting with two FFAs. All complaints of the patient resolved at the 24th month of treatment and bony union of the cystic cavity was observed radiologically. Curettage and FFA may be safely used for filling the cavity in the treatment of sacral ABC in pediatric...
