Serum levels of ghrelin, adipokines, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis in Assuit University Hospitals: Relation to nutritional status and disease activity
Conclusion Ghrelin and leptin could be considered to be responsible for decreased BMI in patients with JIA, so they might be potential targets of new therapeutic strategies for correction of anorexia and associated weight loss in those patients. Low ghrelin and high TNF-α could be used as useful tools in monitoring disease activity in JIA. (Source: Egyptian Pediatric Association Gazette)

Evaluation of heart murmurs in children: One year of observational study
Conclusions Several healthy children are referred to pediatric cardiologists or for echocardiographic examination. Physician anxiety is an important reason for a referral of the children to pediatric cardiologists. Echocardiography provides a definitive diagnosis and is recommended for evaluation of any potentially pathologic murmur, and for evaluation of infant heart murmurs because these are more likely to be manifestations of structural heart disease. Cardiac examination should remain the first line diagnostic tool of every clinician; echocardiography should not replace it. (Source: Egyptian Pediatric Association Gazette)

Correlation between clinical features and MECP2 gene mutations in patients with Rett syndrome
Conclusions Mutation screening for MECP2 is a fast and reliable method to diagnose patients clinically suspected to suffer from Rett syndrome or female patients with atypical Rett syndrome features, mental retardation, developmental delay and other neurological abnormalities who do not fit any specific diagnosis. Also, patients with MECP2 mutation presented with a more severe phenotype. (Source: Egyptian Pediatric Association Gazette)

Estimation of plasma concentrations of hepatocyte growth factor in acute leukemia in Upper Egypt
Conclusion The results of the present study suggest that high plasma HGF may play a significant role in the leukemia process and contribute to the leukemic cell dissemination. The clinical significance of the increased level of HGF in acute leukemia needs further investigation and may suggest a novel therapeutic approach in this disease. Early versus late extubation after surfactant replacement therapy for respiratory distress syndrome
Conclusion Early administration of surfactants is associated with early extubation. Patients who were extubated early (most of them had an early administration of surfactants) had a lower chance for re-intubation, less duration of total oxygen administration and less hospital stay. Predictive value of umbilical cord blood bilirubin in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia
Conclusion It was concluded that total serum bilirubin in cord blood was indicative of the jaundice severity developed by healthy FT and late PT newborns without complications, during the first week of life. Recommendations Cord blood bilirubin could be a useful indicator of developing jaundice in newborns and the use of cut off cord bilirubin levels could be a useful predictor of significant hyperbilirubinemia.
