Oxidative stress status in nutritionally stunted children
Conclusions Nutritionally stunted children had an increased oxidative stress and decreased antioxidant defense system compared with healthy controls. Correlation between pulmonary regurgitation and right ventricular myocardial performance index in TOF patients after surgical repair
Conclusion Tissue Doppler RVMPI in patients after surgical repair of Fallot tetralogy is not correlated to the degree of PR measured by two indices: PR index and DSTVI, a new index that can assess severity of PR and correlate to RV functions is required. Adrenocortical status in infants and children with sepsis and septic shock
Conclusion RAI is common with severe sepsis/septic shock. It is associated with more inotropic support and has higher mortality. Studies are warranted to determine whether corticosteroid therapy has a survival benefit in children with RAI and catecholamine resistant septic shock. Vitamin D deficiency and low hemoglobin level as risk factors for severity of acute lower respiratory tract infections in Egyptian children: A case-control study
Conclusion Vitamin D deficiency was associated with severity of ALRTIs. Low hemoglobin level was more prevalent in those children. Improving the nutritional status in children by preventing vitamin D deficiency and low hemoglobin might influence the outcome of children with ALRTI. (Source: Egyptian Pediatric Association Gazette)

Juvenile dermatomyositis, clinical manifestations and outcome in an Iranian cohort

Maternal–cord blood vitamin C status and its relation to fetal growth and placental apoptosis
Conclusion Maternal vitamin C level has a significant positive impact on neonatal anthropometry and placental weight while negatively correlating with placental apoptosis. This denotes an important role of vitamin C in fetal and placental growth during pregnancy. (Source: Egyptian Pediatric Association Gazette)

Assessment of the performance of the Pediatric Index of Mortality 2 (PIM2) among Egyptian pediatric patients admitted to the intensive care
Conclusion The calibration and the discriminative ability of PIM2 scoring system aiming to distinguish survivors from non-survivors are satisfactory for this sample of pediatric patients. PIM2 is easily calculated and is freely available. Thus, this tool provides a good incentive for ICU settings in Egypt for admission of high risk patients in the light of the limited PICU bed complement capacity in relation to the demands.
