Foreword
Non-ST elevation- acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) includes Non-ST Elevation myocardial infarction and unstable angina. NSTE-ACS is primarily related to an acute change in the supply and demand balance of coronary perfusion and myocardial oxygen consumption associated with a significant coronary artery obstruction presenting as plaque rupture or erosion. Evolution of American Academic Medicine: A View of Its Contributions to World Medicine and Reflections Influenced by Personal Role Models
The present discussion describes the state of academic medicine in the United States (US) at the turn of the 20th century followed by the radical changes in education and investigative medicine. As might be immediately recognized, these dramatic academic changes were associated with the remarkable development in formal medical education and the research enterprise. Pathophysiology and Prevention of Heart Disease in Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes mellitus (DM) has become public health problem worldwide, and it has large implications for cardiovascular disease (CVD). In this article, we discuss the etiology and pathophysiology of CVD in DM including the effects of abnormal glucose homeostasis, genetic factors, epigenetics, apoptosis, common pathophysiological mechanisms shared by both DM and CVD, and contributions of other comorbidities.
