Duration of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy Following Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of long duration DAPT (L-DAPT) compared to short duration DAPT (S-DAPT) after drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation. (Source: Current Problems in Cardiology)

Cardiac Amyloidosis: An Updated Review With Emphasis on Diagnosis and Future Directions
Cardiac amyloidosis occurs because of abnormal protein (amyloid) deposition in the cardiac tissue. Even with advanced diagnostic techniques and treatments, the prognosis of amyloidosis remains poor. The diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis particularly needs to be in the differential in patients presenting with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. This entity remains underdiagnosed due to lack of suspicion on the part of many clinicians. Involvement of cardiac tissue is the utmost determinant factor for available treatment options and prognosis. (Source: Current Problems in Cardiology)

Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator “The Lifevest”: Device Design, Limitations, and Areas of Improvement.
Sudden cardiac death is a potentially fatal clinical event demanding use of emergent intervention such as defibrillation. Over the last 1 decade, development of devices such as implantable and wearable cardioverter defibrillators (WCD) has provided new avenues in the management of sudden cardiac death. Several clinical studies have commented on the therapeutic and preventive aspect of WCD, however, literature describing the device functioning and limitations is limited. In this review study, we describe the technical aspects and limitations of WCD with a focus on identifying potential areas of improvement and framework for...

Obesity and CardiovascularDiseases
Obesity has reached epidemic proportions both in the United States and worldwide. There are numerous adverse effects on cardiac structure, hemodynamics, and cellular abnormalities, as well as increases in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, dyslipidemia, atrial fibrillation, and depression. Despite these overwhelming findings, large amounts of evidence support the presence of an “obesity paradox,” where obese patients with CVD have a better prognosis than do lean or normal weight in patients with CVD. Non-ST Elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes: A Comprehensive Review
Non-ST elevation-acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) includes NSTE myocardial infarction and unstable angina. This patient population forms approximately two-thirds of all hospital admissions for ACS in the United States each year and is associated with an in-hospital mortality of 5%. NSTE-ACS is primarily due to an acute change in the supply and demand balance of coronary perfusion and myocardial oxygen consumption, because of the significant coronary artery obstruction presenting as plaque rupture or erosion. Cardiac Imaging in the Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease
Coronary artery disease (CAD) continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. While invasive coronary angiography has previously been the gold standard in establishing the diagnosis of CAD, there is a growing shift to more appropriately use the cardiac catheterization lab to perform interventional procedures once a diagnosis of CAD has been established by noninvasive imaging modalities rather than using it primarily as a diagnostic facility to confirm or refute CAD. With ongoing technological advancements, non-invasive imaging plays a pre-eminent role in not only diagnosing CAD, but also informing the...
