Older soft tissue sarcoma patients experience increased rates of venous thromboembolic events: a retrospective cohort study of SEER-Medicare data
Conclusion Venous thromboembolic events are common and serious co-morbidities that should be closely monitored in older soft tissue sarcoma patients. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Perioperative chemotherapy in the treatment of osteosarcoma: a 26-year single institution review
Conclusions Long-term survival outcomes in a predominantly adult Irish population are similar to large reported trials. Age and stage at diagnosis are prognostic. Postoperative ifosfamide/etoposide alone in patients with poor necrosis rates is a feasible regimen, but its role in the adjuvant setting remains uncertain. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Mesenchymal stromal cells of osteosarcoma patients do not show evidence of neoplastic changes during long-term culture
Conclusions This study shows that although HCLS1 expression was downregulated in MSCs of osteosarcoma patients and binucleate cells were present in both patient and donor derived MSCs, there was no evidence of neoplastic changes to occur during long-term culture. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Metastasizing tenosynovial giant cell tumour, diffuse type/pigmented villonodular synovitis
We describe a very unusual case of a 63-year-old man affected by tenosynovial giant cell tumour, diffuse type of the knee that, despite absence of morphologic evidence of sarcomatous transformation, developed inguinal lymph node metastases following multiple surgical procedures. Primary and secondary angiosarcomas: a comparative single-center analysis
Conclusion Radical surgery remains the mainstay of both primary and recurrence treatment. SAS show a high local recurrence rate, while PAS tend towards developing early metastases. Overall, prognosis is poor for both groups. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

A phase II trial to assess the activity of gemcitabine and docetaxel as first line chemotherapy treatment in patients with unresectable leiomyosarcoma
Conclusions This study demonstrates gemcitabine and docetaxel to be active in locally advanced/metastatic leiomyosarcoma in the first line setting. Further investigation comparing with current standard therapies for leiomyosarcoma is warranted. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Do human tumor-associated viruses play a role in the development of synovial sarcoma?
Conclusion An involvement of these viruses in the etiology of synovial sarcoma was not detected but further studies are needed with different virus types and sarcoma entities. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

First line palliative chemotherapy in elderly patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma
Conclusion The overall survival for elderly patients with STS is poor but several predictive factors have been identified. Hospital admissions for chemotherapy related toxicity are common. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Hormonal treatments in metastatic endometrial stromal sarcomas: the 10-year experience of the sarcoma unit of Royal Marsden Hospital
Conclusions In this cohort of metastatic ESS patients, 1st line endocrine treatment achieved objective response in 46.2% of them and clinical benefit in 92.4%. Tamoxifen and hormone replacement therapy should not be prescribed in patients with ESS due to their detrimental effects. Until more solid data are available, a reasonable recommendation would be that 1st line treatment with an endocrine treatment, preferably with an AI. Moreover, in view of the positive outcomes of our patients that received 2nd/3rdline endocrine treatments, all available hormonal options should be used in sequence in the mana...

Response of conventional chondrosarcoma to gemcitabine alone: a case report
We report on an 18-month-long tumour response to gemcitabine as single agent in a young patient with an advanced secondary peripheral conventional chondrosarcoma, previously treated unsuccessfully with anthracyclines, ifosfamide, platinum, etoposide. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Primary Synovial Sarcoma (SS) of the digestive system: a molecular and clinicopathological study of fifteen cases
Conclusions SS is increasingly recognized at visceral sites. Molecular analyses play a key role when dealing with usual histotypes in unusual sites. Correct diagnosis is crucial for appropriate therapy. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Solitary intraosseous schwannoma of the base and vault of the skull: a summary review of such unusual location
Abstract Intra-osseous schwannoma is a rare mesenchymal tumor. Although, the head and neck region is one of the most common sites for schwannomas, its location at the skull bone is uncommon and accounted for less than 0.2% in the largest series of bone tumors ever reported. Furthermore, it is most often a benign tumor, malignant transformation is exceedingly rare. Clinical presentation is non-specific, most often symptoms are associated with compression and invasion of adjacent organs. Neuro-imaging features are non-specific and the diagnosis is based on histological examination with...

Pazopanib as first line treatment for solitary fibrous tumours: the Royal Marsden Hospital experience
Conclusion Our prospective data confirm that anti-angiogenic drugs are active in SFT. PFS and overall response do not appear significantly lower than other reported series on the same disease. Furthermore, pazopanib is a drug already licensed in soft tissue sarcomas and these data suggest its activity also in this particular subtype of sarcomas. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)

Ganglioside GD2 expression is maintained upon recurrence in patients with osteosarcoma
Conclusions GD2 expression was found to persist upon recurrence. These results suggest a phase 2 trial in children with recurrent osteosarcoma should provide an appropriate read out on the efficacy of anti-GD2 antibody. (Source: Clinical Sarcoma Research)
