Gray Matter Volume Changes over the Whole Brain in the Bulbar- and Spinal-onset Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: a Voxel-based Morphometry Study
Conclusions The asymmetric GM atrophy of the motor cortex and extra-motor cortex represents the common MRI structural signatures of spinal-onset ALS, and sole extra-motor cortex atrophy represents the structural signatures of bulbar-onset ALS. The present study also demonstrated that the pattern of GM damage is likely to distribute wider in spinal-onset ALS than in bulbar-onset ALS. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)

Therapy of Rituximab in Idiopathic Membranous Nephropathy with Nephrotic Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Conclusions RTX treatment in IMN was efficient, well tolerated and safe. More than 60% patients can reach partial remission or CR in 24 months, and relapse is rare. Adverse events of RTX are mostly infusion-related reactions and generally mild. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)

Recombinant Expression and Purification of Mouse Nectin-like 4 Glycoprotein in 293ET Cell Line
Conclusions By using modified AP mammalian protein expression system, we can easily screen the high productive stable cell lines by using AP activity assay. By adding mannosidase inhibitor kifunensine into the medium and cutting purified protein by using endoglycosidase H, we can obtain deglycosylated Necl-4 protein in milligram quantities. Our method might throw a light on the expression and purification of glycoprotein for structural and functional studies. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)

Extrarenal Wilms' Tumor of the Female Genital System: A Case Report and Literature Review
Publication date: December 2017 Source:Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 32, Issue 4 Author(s): Minmin Cao, Cuiping Huang, Yafen Wang, Demei Ma Extrarenal Wilms' Tumors (ERWTs) are rare. There have been only 25 cases of ERWT arising from the female genital system reported in the literature. In this paper, we report a 60-year-old woman with a complaint of vaginal bleeding and a polypoid mass in the uterine cavity by sonography that was demonstrated as ERWT by pathology after resection. The pathological characteristics, histological origination, diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of ERWT in female reproductive sys...

Bilateral Choroidal Occlusion in Antiphospholipid Syndrome Associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
This article reports a rare case of bilateral choroidal occlusion that occurred in a 24-year-old woman with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This young lady concurred with aorta ventralis thrombosis and bilateral iliac artery occlusion when presented, and experienced a rapid deterioration of vision. She also has a history of recurrent miscarriage. Corticosteroid, immunosuppression and anticoagulation therapy were administered. Patients with APS associated with SLE are at risk for thrombotic phenomena, which may affect the ocular vessels of all sizes, including choroidal ve...

MR Lymphangiography for Focal Disruption of the Thoracic Duct in Chylothorax of an Infant: a Case Report and Literature Review
Publication date: December 2017 Source:Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 32, Issue 4 Author(s): Haipeng Pan, Qun Lao, Zhenghua Fei, Li Yang, Haichun Zhou, Can Lai Chylothorax is a rare cause of pleural effusion in children, and it is usually difficult to identify the location of chyle leakage due to the small size of the thoracic duct in children. Herein we report an infant case with chylothorax whose leakage of the thoracic duct was successfully located by magnetic resonance lymphangiography (MRL) using pre-contrast MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and gadodiamide-enhanced spectral presaturation inversion...

Progress in Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring for the Surgical Treatment of Thoracic Spinal Stenosis
This article illustrates the theoretical basis of applying IONM in thoracic decompression surgery, and elaborates on the relationship between signal changes in IONM and postoperative neurological function recovery of the spinal cord. It also introduces updated information in multimodality IONM, the factors influencing evoked potentials, and remedial measures to improve the prognosis. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)

Role of ROS/Kv/HIF Axis in the Development of Hypoxia-Induced Pulmonary Hypertension
Publication date: December 2017 Source:Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 32, Issue 4 Author(s): Wen Wu, Yan Li, Dunquan Xu Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is a common complication in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep-disordered breathing, or dwellers in high altitude. The exact mechanisms underlying the development of HPH still remain unclear. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), hypoxia inducible factors (HIF), and potassium channels (KV) are believed as the main factors during the development of HPH. We propose that the “ROS/Kv/HIF axis” may play an important initiating role...

Plasma SCF/c-kit Levels in Patients with Dipper and Non-Dipper Hypertension
Conclusions Peripheral plasma SCF/c-kit levels are higher in patients with non-dipper hypertension than those with dipper one, and significantly correlate with 24-hour MSBP, 24-hour MDBP, serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)

Secreted Frizzled-Related Protein 5 (SFRP5) in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Conclusions In nondiabetic OSA patients, plasma SFRP5 is associated with the lipid profile. However, no correlation was observed between SFRP5 and FBG or sleep parameters. The SFRP5 level of OSA patients did not differ from that of non-OSA individuals in our study. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)
