Relationship Between Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Constitution and TCM Syndrome in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Diseases
Publication date: June 2018Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 33, Issue 2Author(s): Xiuxiu Sang, Zhongxia Wang, Shuyi Liu, Ruilin WangAbstractChronic diseases are global threats to human health. By applying the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory of body constitution to the treatment of chronic diseases, and comprehensively identifying and differentiating the syndrome, disease, and constitution, TCM can be fully used in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases. In this manner, population-based and evidence-based modern medicine can organically align with the individual-focused and speculation-bas...

A Literature Review of Antithrombotic Therapy for Patients of Venous Thromboembolic Events with Comorbidity of Coronary Heart Disease
This article discussed the appropriate antithrombotic therapy when balancing the effectiveness and the risk in different circumstance of concurrence of VTE and CHD, such as combining anticoagulation therapy, dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT), triple antithrombotic therapy (TAT), thrombolytic therapy and extending therapy, in order to provide safe, standard and effective therapeutic schemes for the clinical management of these patients. In the meantime, this article also provides perspectives regarding the application of novel non-vitamin K anticoagulants (NOACs) and the assessment tools of bleeding risk. (Source: Chinese Me...

Successful Resuscitation with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in a Case with Prolonged Cardiac Arrest
Publication date: June 2018Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 33, Issue 2Author(s): Xuening Wang, Si M PhamAbstractThis case study describes a 25-year-old patient who had a witnessed cardiac arrest in the medical intensive care unit. The patient received 107 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation before the veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was initiated. During extracorporeal life support, the patient's cardiac function improved. The patient was weaned from extracorporeal membrane oxygenation on day 6 and was discharged without physical and neurological complications on day 28. The successf...

Early Diagnosis of Recurrent Optic Neuritis Using Contrast-Enhanced T2 Fluid-attenuated Inversion Recovery Imaging: a Case Report
Publication date: June 2018Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 33, Issue 2Author(s): Lihui Li, Houbin Huang, Zhiye ChenAbstractThe diagnosis of the recurrent optic neuritis is commonly established clinically, and sometimes it could be challenging because the involved optic nerve does not always show significant enhancement on conventional contrast enhanced-T1 weighted imaging (CE-T1WI). In this paper, we reported a middle-aged female with early diagnosis of recurrent optic neuritis using contrast-enhanced T2 fluid-attenuated inversion recovery imaging (CE-T2FLAIR). The involved optic nerve presented evident en...

Secreted Frizzled-Related Protein 5 (SFRP5) in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea
ConclusionsIn nondiabetic OSA patients, plasma SFRP5 is associated with the lipid profile. However, no correlation was observed between SFRP5 and FBG or sleep parameters. The SFRP5 level of OSA patients did not differ from that of non-OSA individuals in our study. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)

Plasma SCF/c-kit Levels in Patients with Dipper and Non-Dipper Hypertension
ConclusionsPeripheral plasma SCF/c-kit levels are higher in patients with non-dipper hypertension than those with dipper one, and significantly correlate with 24-hour MSBP, 24-hour MDBP, serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels. (Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal)

Role of ROS/Kv/HIF Axis in the Development of Hypoxia-Induced Pulmonary Hypertension
Publication date: December 2017Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 32, Issue 4Author(s): Wen Wu, Yan Li, Dunquan XuAbstractHypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is a common complication in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep-disordered breathing, or dwellers in high altitude. The exact mechanisms underlying the development of HPH still remain unclear. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), hypoxia inducible factors (HIF), and potassium channels (KV) are believed as the main factors during the development of HPH. We propose that the “ROS/Kv/HIF axis” may play an important initiating rol...

MR Lymphangiography for Focal Disruption of the Thoracic Duct in Chylothorax of an Infant: a Case Report and Literature Review
Publication date: December 2017Source: Chinese Medical Sciences Journal, Volume 32, Issue 4Author(s): Haipeng Pan, Qun Lao, Zhenghua Fei, Li Yang, Haichun Zhou, Can LaiAbstractChylothorax is a rare cause of pleural effusion in children, and it is usually difficult to identify the location of chyle leakage due to the small size of the thoracic duct in children. Herein we report an infant case with chylothorax whose leakage of the thoracic duct was successfully located by magnetic resonance lymphangiography (MRL) using pre-contrast MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and gadodiamide-enhanced spectral presaturation inversion r...

Bilateral Choroidal Occlusion in Antiphospholipid Syndrome Associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
This article reports a rare case of bilateral choroidal occlusion that occurred in a 24-year-old woman with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This young lady concurred with aorta ventralis thrombosis and bilateral iliac artery occlusion when presented, and experienced a rapid deterioration of vision. She also has a history of recurrent miscarriage. Corticosteroid, immunosuppression and anticoagulation therapy were administered. Patients with APS associated with SLE are at risk for thrombotic phenomena, which may affect the ocular vessels of all sizes, including choroidal ve...
