Mitochondrion: features, functions and comparative analysis of specific probes in detecting sperm cell damages
Publication date: Available online 4 November 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction Author(s): N. Srivastava, Megha Pande In assisted reproduction, ejaculated semen is washed for in vitro fertilization or diluted and processed for optimal low temperature liquid- or cryo-preservation. The extended handling of semen makes sperm vulnerable to organelle and/or membrane damages. In addition to several important functions, mitochondrion is chiefly responsible for generation of detrimental reactive oxygen/nitrogen species in sperm cells. Therefore, direct evaluation of mitochondrial function might be useful as an ...

Evaluation of infertile men: Mini-review
Conclusion Initial assessment of the infertile male include; thorough reproductive history, and at least one semen examination. Endocrine assessment indicated for males with abnormal semen analysis. Post-ejaculatory urine analysis performed in males having <1 mL ejaculation volume, except in congenital bilateral absent vasa deferentia (CBAVD), and hypogonadism. Genetic testing for cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mutations offered to male with CBAVD before IVF. Males with severe oligozoospermia and/or non-obstructive azoospermia are at risk of genetic abnormality, and must offered karyotype...

Factors affecting the Length of Gestation in Artificially Inseminated Marwari Mares of India
Conclusions From the current study it can be concluded that the true average gestation length for Marwari foals born is 344.1 ± 0.49 days. The range of gestation lengths was found to be 315–388 days all resulting in viable foals. The length of gestation is not significantly affected by age and parity of the mare. The only factors significantly affecting gestation length are foal gender and month of foaling (P <0.05). (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

Oral dydrogesterone for luteal support in frozen-thawedembryo transfer artificial cycles: a pilot randomized controlled trial
Conclusion Given that oral dydrogesterone seems to be more accepted by patients in terms of ease of use, lower cost and satisfaction, it could be prescribed for luteal phase support in artificial FET cycles as effective as either intramuscular or vaginal supplements. Studies on the protamine 1 gene in the sperm DNA of male albino rats treated with local gin using BseR I endonuclease
Conclusion This study has shown that local gin can affect the sperm DNA by making it susceptible to damage because of the reduced viability of the PRM1 gene whose product i.e., PRM1 protein is needed for the proper compaction of the sperm DNA. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

Freezability of buffalo semen with TRIS extender enriched with disaccharides (trehalose or sucrose) and different glycerol concentrations
Conclusion From the present study, it can be concluded that addition of glycerol (5.5% or 7.3%) to Tris-Fructose-Egg yolk-Sucrose extender might help in improvement of the post-thawed characteristics of buffalo frozen semen. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

Profile of peroxidative injury and antioxidant indicators in singleton, twins and multiple bearing goats throughout pregnancy
Conclusions Knowing the relationship between the fetal number and oxidative stress indicators could be useful in the clinical management of such pregnancies and could be useful in the early detection or prediction adverse pregnancy outcome. Particularly, the 4th and 5th month of gestation increases the liability to reactive oxygen species in goats. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

Polymyxin B changes the plasma membrane integrity of cryopreserved bull semen
Conclusion Our study indicates that adding PMB to bull extender is efficient and appropriate, but, it must be mentioned that addictive amount will be due to extender composition, existence of other antibiotics and, importantly, the load of bacterial contamination in the semen. Effects of potassium bromate on male rat growth and testicular histology
Conclusions Exposure of prepubertal rats to KBro3 retards their growth, causes testicular hypoplasia and impairs spermatogenesis, which is a predictor of infertility or even sterility in the future. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

The important role of protamine in spermatogenesis and quality of sperm: A mini review
Conclusion Our results of a study in mice confirmed that inhibin B injection caused a reduction in the expression of protamine 2 in cauda epididymis. It has implications in the decrease of motility, concentration, and spermatozoa viability so that it affects the fertilization ability and the number of child production.
