Klinefelter syndrome and its association with male infertility
Publication date: March 2014 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, Volume 3, Issue 1 Author(s): V Ramakrishnan , S Gowtham Kumar , Radha Pandiyan Klinefelter's syndrome is the most common genetic disorder in which there is at least one extra X chromosome. Males normally have an X chromosome and a Y chromosome (XY). But males who have Klinefelter syndrome have an extra X chromosome (XXY), giving them a total of 47 instead of the normal 46 chromosomes. Sex chromosome abnormalities are more frequently associated with male infertility. The prevalence of XXYs has risen from 1.09 to 1.72 per 1 000 male births. A p...

Effect of sodium fluoride in maternal and offspring rats and its amelioration
Publication date: March 2014 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, Volume 3, Issue 1 Author(s): Sneha Panchal , Ramtej J. Verma High fluoride content is known to cause dental and skeletal abnormalities. In addition, present review indicates that sodium fluoride consumption caused increased number of r=esorptions and dead foetuses. Various skeletal anomalies such as wavy ribs, presence of 14th ribs, lacking 6th sternebrae and incompete ossification of skull occur. All these changes could be due to oxidative stress caused by fluoride consumption. Fluoride-induced changes could be successfully ameliorated by cot...

Investigation on leukocyte profile of periparturient cows with or without postpartum reproductive disease
Conclusions The neutrophil% and neutrophil: lymphocyte ratio was higher in the cows with PRD during periparturient period. Thus, the increased neutrophil percentage and neutrophil: lymphocyte ratio observed at day15 postpartum is an indication of PRD in cows. The significant rise in TLC on the day of calving than prepartum and post partum days only in normal cows is physiological. It is also clear that cows suffering from ROP most likely to suffer from other post partum reproductive diseases. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

Tranexamic acid reduces blood loss during and after cesarean section: A double blinded, randomized, controlled trial
Conclusions Tranexamic acid can be used safely to reduce blood loss during cesarean section. Reduced blood loss after tranexamic acid was associated with improvement of post-operative hemoglobin, hematocrit and with reduction of post-partum need for iron replacement. Maternal outcome in multiple versus singleton pregnancies in Northern Tanzania: A registry-based case control study
Conclusions Multiple gestations are associated with adverse maternal outcomes. Close follow-up and timely interventions may help to prevent poor outcomes related to multiple gestations. These findings suggest the needs for clinicians to counsel women with multiple gestations during prenatal care regarding the potential risks. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

Investigation on some biochemical parameters and effect of hormonal treatment in anoestrous dairy cows with cystic ovarian follicle
Conclusions The present study confirmed the thesis for low blood levels of glucose and inorganic phosphate in cows presenting cystic ovarian follicles. It also indicated significant improvement of cumulative oestrous activity and ovulation rate in animals subjected to hCG-PGF2α -GnRH administration than non-treated animals. The used hormonal protocol could decrease cystic ovarian follicle persistence in dairy cows. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction)

Effects of pedigree and exotic genetic inheritance on semen production traits of dairy bulls
Conclusions It may be inferred that the “acceptable quality semen producing ability” decreased from grandsire through sire to male progeny and among the increasing exotic genetic levels of CB cattle, F1 bulls produced significantly higher “low grade ejaculates” that were unfit for cryopreservation.
