Are resistance and aerobic exercise training equally effective at improving knee muscle strength and balance in older women?
Increase or at least maintenance of capacity above the threshold risk for falls is central to prevent serious fall injuries such as hip fractures that often result in long-term functional impairment, nursing home admission and increased mortality (Marks, Allegrante, Ronald MacKenzie,& Lane,2003). Extensive literature has suggested that lower extremity weakness and balance impairment are associated with an increased risk of falls (Moreland, Richardson, Goldsmith,& Clase, 2004), mobility limitations (Donoghue, Savva, Cronin, Kenny,& Horgan, 2014; Visser et al., 2005), and hospitalizations (Cawthon et al., 2009). Prevalence and clinical characteristics of insomnia and its subtypes in the Korean elderly
Insomnia is known to be associated with psychiatric disorders, other sleep disorders and medical conditions, but the prevalence of insomnia diagnosis has never been estimated according to its subtypes. We studied the prevalence and clinical characteristics of insomnia diagnosis and its subtypes in the Korean elderly population. (Source: Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics)

Orthostatic hypotension does not predict recurrent falling in a nursing home population
Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is frequently seen in the elderly population, and its prevalence increases with advancing age (Lahrmann et al., 2006). OH is regarded as a risk factor for falling and could potentially lead to severe morbidity (Scheffer et al., 2013; Shaw& Claydon, 2014; Angelousi et al., 2014; Graafmans et al., 1996a; Gangavati et al., 2011; Heitterachi, Lord, Meyerkort, McCloskey,& Fitzpatrick, 2002). Many studies reporting a positive association between falls and OH, were performed in nursing homes (Graafmans et al., 1996a; Ooi, Hossain,& Lipsitz, 2000).
