Effects of aging on mechanical properties of sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles during transition from lying to sitting position —A cross-sectional study
Musculoskeletal pain is one of the most common causes of discomfort in cervical spine during aging (Leveille, Fried,& Guralnik, 2002). Older people are more likely to sufferer from muscular pain than younger persons (Lautenbacher, Kunz, Strate, Nielsen,& Arendt-Nielsen, 2005). Moreover, older subjects feel pain more intensely (Marini et al., 2012). Tension headache was shown to be the most common type of headache experienced by older persons (Schwaiger et al., 2009). Available evidence suggests that the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle and the upper trapezius (UT) muscle are major contributors to tension headache (Bendtsen...

Adaptation to nursing home: The role of leisure activities in light of motivation and relatedness
Based on the motivational sequence described in Self-Determination Theory, this study explored the relationship between relatedness, motivation, adaptation and leisure in nursing homes. We formulated the hypothesis that the variables of the study would be found in an integrative mediational sequence: Participation in leisure activities →Relatedness→Self-determined motivation→Adaptation to nursing homes. Participants (N=112, mean age=84.17) were invited to complete questionnaires assessing these variables. (Source: Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics)

Predictors of functional disability with focus on activities of daily living: A community based follow-up study in older adults in India
Functional capacity is the possibility and ability to carry out the daily activities in a normal or accepted way, which declines as age advances (Mill án-Calenti et al., 2010). A state in which an older adult experiences deficits, limitations in these activities and restrictions in his/her social participation is called disability (WHO, 2001). Exceptional gains in life expectancy in both developed and developing countries has resulted in the grow th of the sixty-plus population who are likely to be nearly two billion by 2050 (UNDESA, 2013). The effect of exergaming on knee proprioception in older men: A randomized controlled trial
Proprioception is vital for people to perform daily tasks. It refers to one ’s perception of their body‘s location within their surrounding space. It plays an essential role in the generation of coordinated movements, motor learning, relearning, body conditioning and maintaining balance (Ju, Lin, Cheng, Cheng,& Wong, 2013). Previous studies have reported that there is a close relationship between proprioception and both balance and daily activities (Sohn& Kim, 2015). Proprioception is important for balance, walking, stair climbing, and in performing the sit-to-stand motion among elderly people. (Source: Archives of Ger...
