Neuropsychiatric characteristics of PiB-negative subcortical vascular dementia versus behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia
Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), also known as neuropsychiatric symptoms, are an important part of dementia syndromes in addition to cognitive decline. BPSD poses a significant management challenge for clinicians and contributes to caregiver burden and stress. (Source: Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics)

Risk factors for pelvic insufficiency fractures and outcome after conservative therapy
Osteoporosis is frequently seen in the general population and its prevalence rises with advancing age. As life expectancy continuously increases in western countries, the burden of osteoporosis is rising, too (Johnell & Kanis, 2006). Osteoporosis is often associated with fractures and given the rising number of osteoporotic patients, the number of patients with osteoporotic fractures who are treated by orthopaedic surgeons are increasing. (Breuil, Roux, & Testa, 2008; Skedros, Holyoak, & Pitts, 2006). (Source: Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics)

Frailty and life satisfaction in Shanghai older adults: The roles of age and social vulnerability
Life satisfaction represents a global evaluation of one ’s life, and is a very important component of subjective well-being (Diener, Suh, Lucas, & Smith, 1999). Previous research has shown that health factors (e.g., self-rated health and physical health) play a significant role in life satisfaction and subjective well-being in older adults (Cho, Martin, Margrett, Macdonald, & Poon, 2011; Gana et al., 2013; Jonker, Comijs, Knipscheer, & Deeg, 2009). Different from individual health indicators, frailty is a physiological state characterized by decreased physical reserve in multiple systems, which could lead to physiolog...

Acute effects of walking at moderate normobaric hypoxia on gait and balance performance in healthy community-dwelling seniors: A randomized controlled crossover study
Demographic projections estimate that 33% of the global and 46% of the western population will be aged > 60years at the end of the 21st century (Lutz, Sanderson, & Scherbov, 2008). Besides cardiocirculatory conditions, fall incidences represent a serious health burden for greying societies. The annual fall rates of seniors aged ≥65 years of age range between 0.3 and 1.6 falls (weighted mean 0.6) per person (Rubenstein, 2006). Direct medical costs amount to $0.2 billion for fatal and $19 billion for non-fatal fall-related injuries (Stevens, Corso, Finkelstein, & Miller, 2006). Differing trends in fall-related fracture and non-fracture injuries in older people with and without dementia
Falls among older people are a major public health issue which places considerable burden on healthcare systems globally. Around one in three adults aged 65 years and over fall each year and one in ten of these falls will require admission to hospital (NSW Ministry of Health, 2010; Tinetti, Speechley, & Ginter, 1988). In 2013 the direct medical costs for falls in the United States was estimated to total $34 billion (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Fall-related hospitalisations are increasing in the United States (Hartholt, Stevens, Polinder, van der Cammen, & Patka, 2011) and elsewhere (Australian Insi...
