Are health assets associated with improved outcomes for hospitalised older adults? A systematic review
Hospitalisation is a sentinel life event for many older adults. In addition to the risk of death, around 30 –40% of older adults will leave hospital with a new, often persistent, disability leaving them reliant on family or needing formal care (Boyd et al., 2008; Covinsky, Pierluissi, & Johnston, 2011). Although disability can occur insidiously in community dwelling older people, the incidence of onset increases markedly with hospitalisation (Gill, Allore, Holford, & Guo, 2004). Older adults are also at increased risk for longer lengths of stay and readmission (Evans, Sayers, Mitnitski, & Rockwood, 2014). (Source: Arc...

What factors support older people to increase their physical activity levels? An exploratory analysis of the experiences of PACE-Lift trial participants
It is well established that physical activity (PA) is an important determinant of health and well-being in later life (Holme & Anderssen, 2015; Meisner, Dogra, Logan, Baker, & Weir, 2010; Sun, Norman, & While, 2013). National guidelines on desirable PA levels for older adults propose a minimum of 150min of moderate intensity activity weekly which may be broken down into 10min bouts and is achievable by walking (Chief Medical Officers, 2011). Objective assessment of PA levels by accelerometry consistently demonstrates that the vast majority (95%) of people aged 65 and older do not achieve this target level (Davis & Fox,...

Fear of falling as a risk factor of mobility disability in older people at five diverse sites of the IMIAS study
Fear of falling (FoF) is a major health problem among community-dwelling older adults that may contribute to avoidance of activities that they are capable of performing. Around 25% to 85% of older adults report FoF; among these, 20% to 55% curtail their physical activities as a result of their concerns (Murphy, Dubin, & Gill, 2003). Traditionally, FoF has been presented as a major psychological consequence of a previous fall. However, it is also reported by significant number of older adults who have never experienced a fall (Delbaere, Crombez, Van Den Noortgate, Willems, & Cambier, 2006; Scheffer et al., 2008).
