Calling all gluten-free recipes!
Now that it has been two weeks since the launch of Grain Brain, my hope is that many of you have had a chance to thoroughly examine and digest the conclusions of the book, and are beginning to incorporate the lessons and suggestions into your daily lives. As you already know, a central part of doing so is changing your diet to be completely grain-free, as well as gluten-free. Certainly, there are plenty of resources available, both on the internet or in print, for gluten-free recipes. However, since we can’t eat grains on the Grain Brain diet, many of these resources fall short of the standards required for a Grain Brain...

Dealing with “Grain Brain”
I’ve been fortunate enough to participate in some great interviews and conversations since Grain Brain has come out, and this interview with Jennifer Fugo, of the Gluten Free School, is no different. Jennifer asked some really stimulating questions that made for a great discussion on the issues I address in Grain Brain. To take a listen, visit Gluten Free School’s website. Food for Thought
Funny isn’t it? When we take our pets to the veterinarian, the first question we’re always asked is what sort of diet we’ve been keeping him/her on. However, when we go to see our own physicians, rarely, if ever, are we asked what sort of food we’re eating to fuel our body! Where’s the logic in that? Grain Brain is part of an ever-growing movement in medical literature that focuses on the impact of diet on more than just the tightness of our pants. Our diets impact the functioning of our entire body and, as Grain Brain highlights, our brain. There’s a clear cause-and-effect relationship between the food we take...

Grain Brain is a Best Seller!
I’m excited to announce that Grain Brain has made this week’s New York Times’ Best Sellers list. This is an amazing honor, and comes on the back of similar bestseller announcements from USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and The Globe And Mail. I’m absolutely floored by this response, and could never have predicted Grain Brain would be such a smash. Thanks to all of you in this community who have made this possible, I couldn’t have done it without you. The post Grain Brain is a Best Seller! appeared first on Dr. David Perlmutter MD. The Good and the Bad of Cooking Oils
Most of the time, it’s not just what we eat, but how we prepare it, that determines the nutritional value and overall “healthfulness” of our foods. A common point of concern is in the use of cooking oils, like vegetable oil. Having, many times, seen members of my community on Facebook ask for clarification on the role cooking oils play in our diet, I decided to film a video on this topic. Watch to learn what oils to avoid, and which are a healthful source of fats. The post The Good and the Bad of Cooking Oils appeared first on Dr. David Perlmutter MD. One Week Ago
If you can believe it, it was just one week ago today that Grain Brain was released. In the time since, I’ve received incredible feedback from all the members of this community. For that, I sincerely thank you. It’s your stories that remind me why I do what I do. I’m passionate about the brain, but I’m inspired by the changes my work can bring to the lives of those who have nowhere else to turn for answers. If you’ve read the book, use the space below to discuss the most interesting thing you’ve learned, or feel free to ask me to clarify something you are having trouble digesting. This book is only the beginnin...

The Process of Neuroplasticity
Q: What is neuroplasticity and how does it work? I posted an answer to this question over on IntegrativePractitioner. What follows are snippets from that article. For the whole article see: Making New Connections: The Gift of Neuroplasticity. The ability of the brain to change and reorganize itself and its function is called neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity provides us with a brain that can adapt not only to changes inflicted by damage, but more importantly, allows adaptation to any and all experiences and changes we may encounter, freeing us from merely responding reflexively as a consequence of genetically determined har...

Eating for Tomorrow, Today
He may have been President, but John F. Kennedy also made a great philosopher. The spirit of this comment is what I hope to impart to people with Grain Brain. In good times, we can, and we must, make the choices that will ensure continued health and prosperity, so that we may all lead long, healthy lives.
