CVD expert calls for mandatory screening of 18 year-old Mexicans
“The Mexican diet is more dangerous than fast food chains. It’s a combination of fried food, junk food and soft drinks.  The philosophy of life is around comfort.  People eat too much and everyday they watch 4 hours of TV, spend 2 hours at the computer and do less than 10 minutes of physical activity.  I have proposed to the Mexican government that 18 year-olds should have obligatory measurements of glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI), with repeat assessment every three years." Read more Topics: Cardiovascular Disease Prevention ...

The role of the echocardiographer in the catheterisation laboratory
Recent advances in minimally invasive PCI would not have been possible without parallel developments in imaging, allowing precise guidance of catheters, optimisation of results and detection of complications. Eric Brochet, from the Hôpital Bichat, Paris, explores the importance of developing good team work between echocardiographers and interventionalists. As in any new relationship, he cautions, both sides of the partnership need to work together on improving communications.  Read more Topics: Non-invasive imaging: Echocardiography, MR/CT, Nuclear (Source: ESC News and Press)

Putting Turkey on the conference map
That EuroEcho-Imaging is currently taking place in Istanbul is owed in large part to the perseverance and persistent lobbying of Çetin Erol.  Istanbul, says Erol, offers a fantastic setting for a conference. ‘It’s an historic city with an 8000 year history set at the cross roads between Europe and Asia, with the added advantage of a really mild climate in December.’   Read more Topics: Non-invasive imaging: Echocardiography, MR/CT, Nuclear (Source: ESC News and Press)

How does the collaboration with EACVI Sister Societies work?
In November this year we celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Korean Society of Echocardiography (KSE).  We firmly believe that good international collaborations help us to make advances in echocardiography. Therefore, we became a sister society of EAE/EACVI in 2009. Each year, around 20 to 30 Korean echocardiography clinicians and sonographers attend the EuroEcho-Imaging meetings, and around five to 10 leading European doctors attend the Korean meeting as invited speakers.  Read more Topics: Non-invasive imaging: Echocardiography, MR/CT, Nucle...
