Short-term outcomes after surgical versus trans catheter closure of atrial septal defects; a study from Iran
ConclusionsBoth trans catheter and surgical procedure are good methods of successful ASD closure. Considering that the surgical group patients were higher risk patients, mean total hospital cost of patient's procedures were significantly higher in device closure group, failed intervention rate and residual ASD were more common in device group and complications of device group were more serious; thus, appropriate patient selection is an important factor for successful device closure. Endothelial nitric oxide synthase Glu 298 Asp (G894T) and Apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism as possible risk factors for coronary heart disease among Egyptians
ConclusionGT and TT genotypes of endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene, E3/E4 genotype of Apo E gene polymorphism and combined GTE3E4 genotype can be considered risk factors for the development of CHD among Egyptians. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Assessment of right ventricular function by echocardiography in patients with chronic heart failure
ConclusionsThe occurrence of right ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with DCM is common [Approaching 40% in this study] and is independent of age and sex, and is proportionate to the degree of LV dilatation, and EF impairment. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

High intensity interval training exercise as a novel protocol for cardiac rehabilitation program in ischemic Egyptian patients with mild left ventricular dysfunction
ConclusionWe emphasize the positive effects of exercise-based CR program on patients with CAD and mild left ventricular dysfunction after PCI. The novel high intensity cardiac training proved to be safe and at least as beneficial as the standard moderate intensity cardiac training protocols, with better quality of life improvement. Prevalence of lipid abnormalities and cholesterol target value attainment in Egyptian patients presenting with an acute coronary syndrome
ConclusionsDYSIS II revealed alarming LDL-C goal attainment, with none of the patients with follow-up information available reaching the target of LDL-C <70 mg/dL, either at hospital admission or 4 months after their ACS event. Improvements in guideline adherence are urgently needed for reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease in Egypt. Strategies include the effective use of statins at high doses, or combination with other agents recommended by guidelines. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

The predictive value of R-wave peak time on no-reflow in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction treated with a primary percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionRWPT is strongly associated with and significantly predicts the development of NR. This association was statistically non-inferior to the well-known association between STR% and NR. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Evaluation of loss of heterozygosity of chromosome 22q11.21 region in patients with congenital heart diseases
Publication date: Available online 30 July 2018Source: The Egyptian Heart JournalAuthor(s): Eman G. Behiry, Azza A. Abo Senna, Amr E. Elnagar, Magda A. EshieshAbstractThe 22q11.21 region is prone to low-copy repeats events that lead to congenital anomaly disorders. We tested genomic DNA of 20 families with non-syndromic CHD patients using a set of three known consecutive high polymorphic short tandem repeat (STR) markers along the 22q11.21 region; D22S941, D22S944 and D22S264 loci. We found loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in D22S941 locus in 2 out of 20 families (10%) with 2 offspring affected by ASD combined with PS and TOF ...
