Predictors of response to cardiac resynchronization therapy in chronic heart failure patients
Conclusion: Only some of the commonly used response criteria predict outcome in patients undergoing CRT. The newly generated CRT score may be used to improve the appropriate use of CRT, to increase the CRT response rate. This score needs to be validated on another population of patients. The relation between total epicardial fat volume assessed by cardiac CT and the presence of atrial fibrillation
Conclusion Epicardial fat is associated with the presence of AF and predicts chronicity. These associations are independent to systemic measures of adiposity and sensitive echocardiographic parameters as LA volume index. These findings are consistent with the hypothesis of a local pathogenic effect of epicardial fat on the arrhythmogenic substrate supporting AF. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Vascular effects of a single high salt meal
Conclusion High salt intake may acutely impair vascular function in different vascular beds independent of the increase of blood pressure. Plasma sodium increase may be one of the underlying mechanisms. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Heart-type fatty acid-binding protein detects more patients with non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction compared to troponin-T
Conclusions For patients presenting with suspected ACS within 4h of onset of symptoms, H-FABP detects a significantly larger number of patients with NSTEMI compared to troponin-T. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Emergency endovascular treatment of complicated type B Acute dissection of the aorta
Publication date: Available online 26 September 2015 Source:The Egyptian Heart Journal Author(s): Y. Lyazidi, H.T. Chtata, T. Bekkali, M. Zoulati, M. Taberkant Although Type B dissection accounts for 25–40% of all aortic dissections, their treatment remains to date quite controversial. In acute complicated cases (visceral malperfusion, refractory pain, etc.), surgical treatment is generally recommended, but is still associated with a high rate of morbimortality. Implantation of endoprosthesis has been proposed as an alternative therapy for patients with high surgical risk. Reports support that endovascular ...

Cardio- and reno-protective effect of remote ischemic preconditioning in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. A prospective, non-randomized controlled trial
Conclusions The use of PreC<2h before PCI, reduces the incidence of PCI-related MI 4a, tends to decrease the incidence of CIN and improves ischemic symptoms in patients undergoing elective PCI. The observed cardio- and renoprotection appears to confer sustained benefit on reduced major adverse events at 3 month follow-up beyond what is seen with judicious pre- and post-hydration (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02313441). Radial artery anomalies in patients undergoing transradial coronary procedures – An Egyptian multicenter experience
Conclusion There is a relatively significant presence of radial anomalies, with different degrees of impact on procedural failure rate, in our Egyptian population. Further collaborative studies are recommended to increase our success rates. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Acquired long QT syndrome and Torsades de Pointes related to donepezil use in a patient with Alzheimer disease
We present a 84year old female who was admitted to emergency service due to repetitive syncope episodes while taking donepezil. Her electrocardiogram showed QT prolongation and on follow-up a Torsades de Pointes episode occurred. Patient was discharged with normal corrected QT time after removal of donepezil. Tei index in neonatal respiratory distress and perinatal asphyxia
Conclusion: Tei index was higher in neonates with respiratory distress and neonates with perinatal asphyxia than in normal neonates despite normal or even increased ejection fraction which indicates that these patients may have subclinical ventricular dysfunction which should be followed up carefully.
