Renal Disease Risk Factors Among Risk Groups Comprised of African American Women With Type 2 Diabetes: A Secondary Analysis
Conclusions This study displays the importance of acknowledging African American women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at high risk for renal disease in health care settings, which is often overlooked, and realizing that renal disease risk reduction is obtainable. Voluntary Organizations and Community Groups as New Partners in Diabetes Self-management and Education: A Critical Interpretative Synthesis
Conclusions This review has uncovered a range of facets of voluntary organizations and community groups relevant for supporting diabetes self-management such as the context within which they act and the nature of relationships developed with community and health services. The principles of "assistance, support, sharing, and link" seem essential for this voluntary initiative in self-management to establish effective reciprocal collaboration with health professionals. PETS-D: Impact on Diabetes Management Outcomes
Conclusions Modest treatment-related differences may reflect ceiling/floor effects in many of the outcomes; we also compared HPS with another intervention rather than to usual education. Parents of younger children receiving the intervention may feel more comfortable with lower A1C levels because of management awareness gleaned from the HPS experience. Future research will include a retrospective case-control study of very young children. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

The Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Effectiveness of a Promotora-Led Diabetes Prevention Program (PL-DPP) in Latinas: A Pilot Study
Conclusions The PL-DPP demonstrated feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness in a high-risk population of Latinas. Future research examining this intervention in a randomized clinical trial should explore factors impacting its effects using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Patient Experience in a Coordinated Care Model Featuring Diabetes Self-management Education Integrated Into the Patient-Centered Medical Home
Conclusions Individuals who received health care in a patient-centered medical home and could participate in diabetes self-management education with integrated support valued both activities. The qualitative results from this study suggest need for more formalized exploration of effective means to meet the ongoing support needs of people with diabetes. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Assessing the Effectiveness of Pharmacist-Directed Medication Therapy Management in Improving Diabetes Outcomes in Patients With Poorly Controlled Diabetes
Conclusions There is a paucity of research focused on behavioral interventions for improving health outcomes in underserved communities. Our results advance the existing literature by demonstrating a positive association between pharmacist-directed MTM, medication adherence, and glycemic control in a sample of underserved patients with suboptimally controlled T2DM. A prospective pharmacy intervention and examination of long-term effects of MTM on medication adherence and T2DM health outcomes in this population is warranted. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)
