Meaning of Illness and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
Conclusions Meaning of illness had a significant effect on measured outcomes of CVD risk. The specific factor included in the overarching concept of meaning of illness differed in its influence, with more positive views of stress/commitments associated with lower blood pressure and LDL but more positive views of the challenge/hope/motivation and negative views of non-anticipated vulnerability associated with diabetes associated with higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Educational Needs and Technological Preferences of Fathers of Youth With Type 1 Diabetes
Conclusions The findings contribute to our understanding of the educational needs of fathers of children with T1DM and provide preliminary support for the acceptability of delivering diabetes education via mobile technology. The incorporation of patient and caregiver perspectives into the development of mHealth diabetes education applications may increase engagement and improve health outcomes. Relationship Between Health Literacy and Unintentional and Intentional Medication Nonadherence in Medically Underserved Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
Conclusions Results suggest differences in factors affecting intentional and unintentional nonadherence. The findings also suggest interventions are needed to decrease unintentional nonadherence among patients with type 2 diabetes and limited health literacy. Efforts to address unintentional medication nonadherence among patients with type 2 diabetes with limited health literacy may improve patient health. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Psychometric Evaluation of a Korean Version of the Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS) in Adults With Type 2 Diabetes
Conclusions These results support the cross-cultural applicability of the concepts underlying the ARMS-K. The ARMS-K can be used not only to assess adherence to refills and medications in Koreans with diabetes but also to examine the potential role of adherence to refills and medications in enhanced glycemic control of people with diabetes in a variety of clinical settings. Validation of the Revised Brief Diabetes Knowledge Test (DKT2)
Conclusions The reliability and validity tests were inconsistent by sample. The different results can, in part, be attributed to the demographic differences between the 2 samples. With the exception of age, the samples differed in every other measured variable. However, when the samples were combined, the analyses supported the reliability and validity of the Diabetes Knowledge Test 2. The DKT2 is a quick and low-cost method of assessing general knowledge of diabetes and diabetes self-care. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Characteristics of the Spanish- and English-Language Self-Efficacy to Manage Diabetes Scales
Conclusions The self-efficacy measures behaved consistently across the 3 studies and were highly reliable. Associations with medical indicators and behaviors suggested validity, although further study would be desirable to compare other measures of self-efficacy for people with type 2 diabetes. These brief scales are appropriate for measuring self-efficacy to manage diabetes. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Effectiveness of Program Modification Strategies of the Diabetes Prevention Program: A Systematic Review
Conclusions The DPP appears to be programmatically robust to a variety of cultural adaptation and translational strategies. Potentially cost-saving modifications do not seem to reduce effectiveness, which should encourage implementation on a broader scale. Program planners should, however, make efforts to include maintenance components because they appear to significantly reduce risk for acquiring type 2 diabetes. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Corrigendum
The TDE supplement (41:1S), titled "Management of the Complex Pathophysiology of Diabetes: Focus on Noninsulin Therapies," which accompanied the December 2015 issue of TDE, had an incorrect disclaimer. The disclaimer should have read as follows: "This supplement was supported by AstraZeneca." (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Diabetes Causation Beliefs Among Spanish-Speaking Patients
Conclusions Stress was identified as a cause of diabetes in addition to unhealthy diets and heredity. Asking patients about diabetes causation beliefs and emotional status may help prioritize treatment and management goals. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Physical Activity in Adults With Type 1 Diabetes
Conclusions Several demographic, clinical, diabetes-related, and psychosocial factors were related to PA. Potential interventions may target those with depressive symptoms or self-reported poor general health, or they may be tailored to working adults who may find it harder to be physically active. Imbedding Interdisciplinary Diabetes Group Visits Into a Community-Based Medical Setting
Conclusions Diabetes group visits that combined diabetes self-management education and a medical visit with a health care provider improved A1C and were well received by the patients. The study provided patients with a quality program in an environment in which they felt safe to learn and that met them where they were in their diabetes self-management behaviors. This approach could be widely disseminated into other clinic settings that serve patients with type 2 diabetes. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Type 2 Diabetes and Depression: A Pilot Trial of an Integrated Self-management Intervention for Latino Immigrants
Conclusions This pilot trial demonstrated the feasibility and acceptability of an integrated self-management intervention for diabetes and depression. In addition, preliminary data suggest that the intervention may have a positive impact on diabetes and depression-related outcomes. Further evaluation is warranted. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Early and Intermediate Hospital-to-Home Transition Outcomes of Older Adults Diagnosed With Diabetes
Conclusions Multimorbidity complicates home recovery of older adults with diabetes. Diabetes adds complexity to hospital-to-home care transitions. Transition difficulties predict higher risk for an unplanned care encounter. More intensive follow-up of older adults with diabetes during the first month following discharge is recommended.
