Does Gender Influence Participation?: Predictors of Participation in a Community Health Worker Diabetes Management Intervention With African American and Latino Adults
Conclusions Diabetes management interventions may need to adapt their designs to optimize retention and participation of Latino men. Among African American men, the CHW model may be promising. Reasons for low participation among Latino men should receive more study. Future studies should assess whether similar findings apply in other communities and populations. Barriers to Physical Activity in People With Type 2 Diabetes Enrolled in a Worksite Diabetes Disease Management Program
Conclusions Participants who chose to work on physical activity participated in more general and specific physical activity and had a higher stage of change for physical activity. Stage of change affects physical activity. While results provide support for the stages of change construct of the transtheoretical model of change, the results do not support that the WDDMP assisted participants in achieving their physical activity goals. The Landscape for Diabetes Education: Results of the 2012 AADE National Diabetes Education Practice Survey
Conclusions Results of the 2012 NPS provide evidence that the practice of diabetes education is continuing to adapt to evolving models of health care in the United States by expanding the mix of practitioners providing education, engaging in necessary system support activities, and broadening the range of patients seen to include individuals at risk of developing diabetes. Effects of Music Therapy and Music-Assisted Relaxation and Imagery on Health-Related Outcomes in Diabetes Education: A Feasibility Study
Conclusions The study results support the relationship between DSME/T and improvement on all measured outcomes except blood pressure. Results suggest the feasibility of integrating MARI and MT with DSME/T to potentially lower systolic blood pressure of patients with diabetes and a comorbidity of hypertension. Collaboration between diabetes educators and board-certified music therapists is recommended. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Persistent Barriers and Strategic Practices: Why (Asking About) the Everyday Matters in Diabetes Care
Conclusions Although the challenges that low-income patients face in managing their diabetes may seem insurmountable at times, there are several ways that health care providers can help reduce the burden of these challenges, including tailoring their recommendations to incorporate the everyday socioeconomic environment of patients and engaging in clear, open communication with patients. Using the Common Sense Model of Self-Regulation to Review the Effects of Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose on Glycemic Control for Non-Insulin-Treated Adults With Type 2 Diabetes
Conclusion Data suggested that SMBG may help improve glycemic control. Future trials must be designed to test hypotheses and improve our understanding of when, how, and for whom SMBG can enhance glycemic control. Rigorously controlled repetitions of current 2-arm trials will yield little new knowledge of theoretical or practical value. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

Celiac Disease in Patients With Type 1 Diabetes: Screening and Diagnostic Practices
Conclusions Staff at endocrine clinics were more likely to suggest screening for celiac disease in patients with type 1 diabetes. Both low screening frequency as well as inconsistency in management of positive celiac disease serological tests indicated an increase in education regarding celiac disease in patients with type 1 diabetes is required. In addition uniform guidelines should be developed. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)

The Impact of Diabetes Counseling and Education: Clinical and Cost Outcomes From a Large Population of US Managed Care Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
Conclusions Diabetes C/E is associated with improved glycemic control, albeit with a slight increase in the risk of hypoglycemia. C/E was associated with higher health care costs across 12 months. Further analyses are needed to evaluate long-term cost-effectiveness of diabetes counseling and education. (Source: The Diabetes Educator)
