Teriparatide and denosumab treatment for pregnancy and lactation-associated osteoporosis with multiple vertebral fractures: A case study
Pregnancy and lactation-associated osteoporosis (PLO) is a rare disease, which can lead to vertebral fractures in women of reproductive age. No treatment strategy for PLO has been established. Here we report a case of PLO treated with teriparatide followed by denosumab, in which remarkable improvement in bone mineral density (BMD) was achieved. Treatment of fetal congenital chylothorax: Report of eight cases at a mainland Chinese medical center
Congenital chylothorax, defined as the accumulation of chyle in the pleural space, occurs after disruption of the thoracic duct. Although a rare neonatal disorder, it is the most common cause of pleural effusion in fetuses and newborns. The incidence of congenital chylothorax is reported as 1 in 2000 NICU admissions [1]. Chylothorax produces detrimental respiratory, nutritional, and immunological consequences. Mortality rates range from 20% to 60% depending upon associated findings, gestational age, and the duration and severity of the chylothorax [2]. Asymptomatic uterine rupture detected at cesarean section: Some different viewpoints
I commend Soyama et  al. [1] for clearly demonstrating “asymptomatic” uterine rupture. Classical cesarean section (CS), followed by uterine artery embolization (UAE), was initially performed. A repeat CS at the patient's next pregnancy/delivery revealed “asymptomatic” uterine rupture around the fundus. The aut hors discussed the association between UAE and this rupture; this viewpoint is important.
