Sleep-Disordered Breathing, Craniofacial Development, and Neurodevelopment in Premature Infants: A 2-year Follow-up Study
Sleep problems, neuro-developmental development, and sleep-disordered-breathing (SDB), are reported as more prevalent in premature infants than in full-term infants. We investigated the relationship between neuro-development, and SDB in preterm infants at 24 months corrected age (CA) with a narrow palatal presentation over time. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

The impact of aircraft noise exposure on objective parameters of sleep quality: Results of the DEBATS study in France
Noise in the vicinity of airports is a public health issue. Exposure to aircraft noise has been shown to have adverse effects on health and particularly on sleep. Many studies support the hypothesis that noise at night can affect subjective sleep quality. Fewer studies, however, have performed objective measurements of sleep. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Sleep Influences On Cardio-Metabolic Health In Indigenous Populations
Indigenous populations continue to be among the world's most marginalized population groups. Studies in Indigenous populations from high income countries (including the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) indicate increased risk of sleep disorders compared to non-Indigenous populations. Poor sleep, whether it be short sleep duration or fragmented sleep, is a well-established risk factor for cardio-metabolic diseases. Given the implications, targeted improvement of poor sleep may be beneficial for the health and well-being of Indigenous people. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Obstructive events in children with Prader-Willi syndrome occur predominantly during rapid eye movement sleep
Children with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) have a high prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). In most typically developing children with OSAS, more obstructive apneas and hypopneas occur during rapid eye movement (REM) than during non-REM (NREM) sleep. It was hypothesized that patients with PWS are even more prone to obstructive events in REM sleep than otherwise healthy subjects with OSAS. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Pediatric Sleep Disorder Medicine Training in Canada: Past, Present and Future
Pediatric sleep medicine is rapidly evolving in Canada. As pediatric sleep disorders are increasingly recognized, there is a growing need for clinicians educated in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric sleep disorders. Current pediatric sleep resources in Canada are inadequate to meet the needs of the population. Until this year, there was no formal pathway or specific requirements for pediatric sleep disorder medicine training in Canada and exposure to this field of medicine in post-graduate training was limited. Predictors of CPAP adherence following stroke and transient ischemic attack
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) has been shown to improve functional, motor and cognitive outcomes in post-stroke obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, rates of CPAP adherence are often low and factors impacting CPAP adherence remain under-explored. Our objective was to determine predictors of CPAP adherence in patients who had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). (Source: Sleep Medicine)
