Correspondence of maternal and paternal perception of school-aged children ’s sleep with in-home sleep-electroencephalography and diary-reports of children’s sleep
Parents are often the first to report children ’s sleep difficulties. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of parent reports by examining the correspondence of maternal and paternal reports of children’s sleep with in-home electroencephalography (EEG) sleep assessment and sleep diary reports. Overweight and obese children with sleep disordered breathing have elevated arterial stiffness
The prevalence of obese children with sleep disordered breathing (SDB) is increasing. Obesity and SDB are independent cardiovascular risk factors, of which arterial stiffness is an early sign. Pulse wave velocity (PWV), is a marker of arterial stiffness and central systolic blood pressure (cSBP) is a better predictor of cardiovascular outcome than peripheral blood pressure. Therefore, we aimed to determine PWV and cSBP in overweight/obese or normal weight children with sleep disordered breathing (SDB), and non-snoring normal weight controls. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Sleep disorders in children with incidental pineal cyst on MRI: a  pilot study
For several years, pineal cysts have been considered an incidental finding on brain MRI ’s even though research and case reports have shown a possible association of pineal cysts with headaches and sleep disturbances. This pilot study aims to evaluate sleep disorders in school-age children with an incidental pineal cyst in an otherwise normal brain MRI. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Association of Sleep-Disordered Breathing with Severe Chronic Vascular Disease in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Severe chronic vascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of co-morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes (DM2). Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) has been linked to CVD in the general population due to enhanced sympathetic activation, oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, and hypertension; however data for DM2 patients is scarce. Therefore, the aim of the present analysis to assess whether SDB is associated with CVD in patients with DM2, independent of other known associated factors. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Slow-wave sleep and androgens: selective slow-wave sleep suppression affects testosterone and 17 α-hydroxyprogesterone secretion
Levels of steroid hormones such as androgens and cortisol exhibit circadian variation, and their fluctuations are related to the sleep-wake cycle. Currently, the functional role of different stages of sleep in steroid hormone secretion remains unclear. The present study aims to explore the effect of slow-wave sleep (SWS) suppression on morning levels of cortisol and androgens. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty with or without Tonsillectomy in the Treatment of Adult Obstructive Sleep Apnea – A Systematic Review
The most commonly performed surgical procedure for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is uvulopalatopharyngoplasty with or without tonsillectomy (UPPP ± TE). However, there is currently no review solely focusing on clinically relevant effects of standard UPPP technique with or without tonsillectomy as a monotherapy in patients with OSA. Sleep profile in Anorexia and bulimia nervosa female patients
Sleep wake cycle and eating patterns undergo major changes throughout life and are proved to be very correlated, eating disorders prevalence is increasing nowadays and sleep problems are very common among them. The current study is concerned with investigating the sleep pattern in anorexia and bulimia female patients using subjective and objective assessment tools. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Polysomnographic findings in restless legs syndrome (RLS) patients with severe augmentation
Augmentation can occur frequently in restless legs syndrome (RLS) patients treated with dopaminergic agents. Video-polysomnographic (PSG) data from augmented RLS patients are scant. The aim of this study was to evaluate PSG findings in augmented RLS patients and compare them with those of non-augmented RLS patients. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Phenotypes of sleep-disordered breathing symptoms to two years of age based on age of onset and duration of symptoms
Childhood sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) symptoms may comprise multiple phenotypes depending on craniofacial anatomy, tonsil and adenoid growth, body habitus, and rhinitis symptoms. The primary objective of this study is to identify and characterize the different SDB phenotypes to two years of age. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Detecting Inspiratory Flow Limitation with Temporal Features of Nasal Airflow
Inspiratory flow limitation is a breathing pattern during sleep caused by upper airway (UA) narrowing that occurs during snoring and various degrees of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Clinical examination of flow limitation relies on identifying patterns of airflow contour, but this process is subjective and lacks physiological evidence of UA narrowing. Our objective is to derive temporal features of nasal airflow contour that characterize flow limitation. The features that correlate with UA narrowing can be used to develop machine learning classifiers to detect flow limitation with physiological support. (Source: Sleep Medicine)
