Double femoral osteotomy fixed with a Puddu plate and a retrograde intramedullary nail to treat biapical deformity of the femur
Publication date: Available online 5 April 2018 Source:Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia (English Edition) Author(s): Patrícia Moreno Grangeiro, Márcia Uchoa de Rezende, Camilo Partezani Helito, Alessandro Monterroso Felix, Guilherme Pereira Ocampos, Roberto Guarniero Biapical femoral deformities are challenging to treat. In order to correct concomitant metaphyseal and diaphyseal deformities of the femur, the authors propose a double femoral controlled osteotomy with combined internal fixation, consisting of a Puddu plate and an intramedullary nail. The method was described in two patients. Results were analyzed us...

Mixed-type femoroacetabular impingement associated with subspine impingement: recognizing the trifocal femoropelvic impingement
Publication date: Available online 4 April 2018 Source:Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia (English Edition) Author(s): Bruno Gonçalves Schröder e Souza, Ranieri Monteiro Cardoso, Rodrigo Silva Loque, Luiz Fernando Ribeiro Monte, José Paulo Sabino, Valdeci Manoel de Oliveira To describe the arthroscopic surgical technique for subspine impingement (SSI) of the anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) associated with mixed type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), through two standard arthroscopic portals (anterolateral and distal mid-anterior) in two patients with trifocal impingement. The authors report the cases of two ...

Intra-articular viscosupplementation of hyaluronic acids in an experimental osteoarthritis model
Conclusion The injection of saline solution demonstrated signs of OA development, while adding native hyaluronic acid of low molecular weight (Hyalgan®) and hyaluronic acid of high molecular weight (Synvisc®) protected the articular cartilage in this model of OA. Association of ESR α XbaI A & gt;G, PvuII T & gt;C and ESR β AlwNI T & gt;C polymorphisms with the risk of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a systematic review and genetic meta-analysis
Conclusion This meta-analysis suggests that ESRα XbaI A>G, PvuII T>C and ESRβ AlwNI T>C polymorphisms may not be associated with risk of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in overall analysis. However, ESRα XbaI A>G might have influence on the susceptibility of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis among Asians. Considering the limited sample size and ethnicity, further larger scaled studies are needed to provide a more precise estimation on the associations. (Source: Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia)

Isolated anterior dislocation of radial head in an adult with atypical presentation: a case report
We report an unusual case of isolated anterior radial head dislocation in an 18 year old male, who presented with maintained supination–pronation movements of forearm but restricted elbow flexion-extension. Closed reduction was attempted but failed. Hence, open reduction was performed. However, reduction was unstable due to rupture of annular ligament. Hence, repair of the annular ligament was performed and a radio-ulnar k-wire was passed to maintain reduction of proximal radio-ulnar joint, thus keeping the annular ligament stress-free and hence, facilitating its healing. At 12 months of follow up, patient had normal elb...

Difference in articular degeneration depending on type of sport
Conclusion Futsal players are exposed to greater articular degradation, while swimmers exhibit less cartilage degradation compared to the control group in the study population, suggesting that strengthening the periarticular muscles and aerobic exercise in low-load environments have a positive effect on articular cartilage.
