Diabetic patients with and without peripheral neuropathy reveal different hip and ankle biomechanical strategies during stair descent
We describe and compare the net joint moments and kinematics of the lower limbs in diabetic individuals with and without peripheral neuropathy and healthy controls during stair descent. METHOD: Forty-two adults were assessed: control group (13), diabetic group (14), and neuropathic diabetic group (15). The flexor and extensor net moment peaks and joint angles of the hip, knee, and ankle were described and compared in terms of effect size and ANOVAs (p

Intra-observer reproducibility of the feet soles two-point discrimination test in asymptomatic elderly and young individuals
CONCLUSIONS: These values did not exceed two standard deviations and the TPD test was considered as a reproducible measure for the assessment of feet cutaneous sensitivity in asymptomatic and physically active young and elderly participants. (Source: Revista Brasileira de Fisioterapia)

Handgrip strength in elderly with dementia: study of reliability
CONCLUSION: The handgrip strength test has excellent reliability when used in elderly with borderline, mild, and moderate dementia, which enables its use in research. However, its use is not recommended in elderly classified with severe dementia due to the measure’s low reliability and subsequent irrelevance in clinical practice. Assessment of proprioceptive exercises in the treatment of rotator cuff disorders in nursing professionals: a randomized controlled clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: The proprioceptive exercises were important in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, however the results did not allow us to determine which treatment was the most effective as there was no significant difference between groups.CONTEXTUALIZAÇÃO: A dor no ombro em profissionais de enfermagem pode acarretar limitação das atividades diárias e ocupacionais e interferir na qualidade de vida.

Evaluation of muscle regeneration in aged animals after treatment with low-level laser therapy
CONCLUSION: Considering the parameters used, the laser therapy demonstrated to be effective for muscle regeneration in old rats, however only through its anti-inflammatory effect.CONTEXTUALIZAÇÃO: O processo de envelhecimento e suas consequentes alterações morfofisiológicas desencadeiam redução da habilidade regenerativa das células satélites, redução da vascularização tecidual e aumento da produção de fibroblastos, desenvolvendo-se um ambiente celular desfavorável para a regeneração muscular.

Clinimetric properties of the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the Quick Exposure Check (QEC)
CONCLUSIONS: The Brazilian version of the QEC has appropriate clinimetric properties for measuring different levels of exposure to ergonomics risk factors and can now be used by Brazilian researchers and Occupational Health professionals.CONTEXTUALIZAÇÃO: A maior parte dos instrumentos utilizados para avaliação dos fatores de risco de desenvolvimento dos distúrbios musculoesqueléticos relacionados ao trabalho foram originalmente desenvolvidos em língua inglesa, dificultando seu uso em países cuja língua primária não é o inglês, como é o caso do Brasil. OBJECTIVO: Testar as propriedades clinimétricas do instr...

Behavior of respiratory muscle strength in morbidly obese women by using different predictive equations
CONCLUSIONS: Inspiratory muscle strength was greater in the morbidly obese subjects. The most appropriate equation for calculating the predicted MIP values for the morbidly obese seems to be Harik-Khan equation. There seem to be similarities between the respiratory muscle strength behavior of morbidly obese and normal-weight women, however, these findings are still inconclusive. Metabolic and clinical comparative analysis of treadmill six-minute walking test and cardiopulmonary exercise testing in obese and eutrophic women
CONCLUSIONS: The six-minute walking test induced ventilatory, metabolic, and cardiovascular responses in agreement with the maximal testing. Thus, the six-minute walking test proves to be important for functional evaluation in the physical therapy routine.CONTEXTUALIZAÇÃO: A reduzida tolerância ao exercício está relacionada à diminuída capacidade funcional consequente da obesidade.

Effects of physical therapy in older women with urinary incontinence: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: It was concluded that physical therapy treatment seems to be effective to decrease urinary incontinence symptoms in older women. However, the small number of studies and the use of concurrent interventions limit the conclusions on this issue.CONTEXTUALIZAÇÃO: A incontinência urinária (IU) é um dos mais comuns problemas de saúde pública entre as mulheres idosas.

An overview  and profile of the ICF's use in Brazil - a decade of history
CONCLUSIONS: Although incipient, the use of ICF in the Brazilian scientific community is rising. There is a concentration of studies related to the locomotor system, as well as performed by universities in the southeast area of Brazil.CONTEXTUALIZAÇÃO: Em 2001, a OMS aprovou um sistema de classificação para o entendimento da funcionalidade e da incapacidade humana: a Classificação Internacional de Funcionalidade, Incapacidade e Saúde (CIF).

Optoelectronic plethysmography: a review of the literature
CONCLUSION: Based on the literature reviewed, OEP has been shown to be an assessment tool that can provide information about ventilatory parameters in healthy subjects and subjects with various dysfunctions in different positions, situations, and settings. The main results of studies on OEP in COPD are shown, representing the largest body of knowledge to date. The results of studies on OEP in other health conditions are also shown.
