'We are volunteers and that sometimes gets forgotten': exploring the motivations and needs of volunteers at a healthy living resource centre in the North East of England
Conclusion: The place of volunteers within public services and their role in delivery have become increasingly prominent in recent years. Future initiatives to reduce lung cancer incidence in the United Kingdom: smoking cessation, radon remediation and the impact of social change
Conclusions: Reduced smoking prevalence reduces the effectiveness of radon remediation programmes. This, coupled with limited uptake of radon remediation, suggests that radon remediation programmes should be targeted, and that an integrated public health policy for smoking and radon is appropriate. Lack of correlation between smoking prevalence and radon suggests that local assessment of relative priorities for public health strategies, such as the ‘Total Place’ initiative, is appropriate. Web-based hypothermia information: a critical assessment of Internet resources and a comparison to peer-reviewed literature
Conclusions: Hypothermia information on the internet was not entirely congruent with the information within the peer-reviewed medical literature. Several suggestions for improving web-based hypothermia resources include clearly listing sources for users to see and eliminating guidance with lower SORT grades and replacing with evidence-based information. A conceptual framework for managing modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in Fiji
Conclusions: Fiji is progressing through demographic and epidemiological transitions, including a decline in infectious diseases and improved life expectancy. However, in concert with other developing nations, ‘modernization’ is accompanied by increased mortality from non-communicable diseases, with CVD being the most prevalent. This transition has been associated with changes to socio-cultural aspects of Fiji, including poor lifestyle choices that may contribute to a cluster of cardio-metabolic conditions which precede CVD.
