Accuracy of the "International Criteria" for ECG screening in athletes in comparison with previous published criteria: rationale and design of a diagnostic meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: The present diagnostic meta-analysis results will aid sports medicine physicians and cardiologist in adhering to the most accurate criteria for ECG evaluation in athletes and it may help to solve controversies aroused regarding the excess cost of ECG in PPS related to the amount of false positive cases. Excess all-cause mortality during COVID-19 outbreak: potential role of untreated cardiovascular disease.
CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of all-cause mortality data in Italy indicates that reported COVID-19-related deaths are an underestimate of the actual death toll. All-cause death should be seen as the epidemiological indicator of choice to assess the real mortality impact exerted by SARS-CoV-2, given that it also best reflects the toll on frail patient subsets (eg the elderly or those with cardiovascular disease). Factors associated with recurrent postinfarction ventricular tachycardia following ablation: a meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis demonstrated that inducibility after the procedure, lower baseline LVEF and higher baseline NYHA classification were associated with an increased risk of VT recurrence in postinfarction VT patients who underwent VT ablation. Stentys coronary system: current status and future direction.
Authors: Golino M, Nuzzo S, Briguori C Abstract Stentys self-apposing stent was designed to face complex lesions in the precincts of percutaneous coronary interventions. Nitinol platform and disconnectable struts were designed to provide a complete apposition on the vessel wall in challenging lesions such as significant tapering, primary angioplasty in ST segment elevation myocardial infarction and bifurcation. Stentys X-Position S is a sirolimus eluting stent with a novel delivery system aiming to improve positioning. Clinical trials showed good results in terms of procedural success rate, clinical outcom...

Hydrochlorothiazide therapy: impact on early recurrence of atrial fibrillation after catheter ablation?
CONCLUSIONS: Patients on HCT therapy showed no difference in short term recurrence of AF after ablation compared to propensity matched controls. PMID: 32989962 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Cardioangiologica)

Dual antiplatelet therapy duration after percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents: how short can we go?
Authors: Roccasalva F, Ferrante G Abstract Current guidelines recommend a duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with aspirin and oral P2Y12 receptor inhibitors following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with second-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) of 6 months for most patients with stable coronary disease and of 12 months for most patients with acute coronary syndromes. Large evidence from randomised clinical trials of shorter DAPT regimens after PCI with newergeneration DES is now emerging in heterogenous patient population not selected on the basis of high bleeding risk as well as in p...

Procedural sedation and analgesia for percutaneous high tech cardiac procedures.
Authors: Zangrillo A, Morselli F, Lombardi G, Yavorovskiy A, Likhvantsev V, Beretta L, Monaco F, Landoni G Abstract The interest in percutaneous high tech cardiac procedures has increased in recent years together with its safety and efficacy. In fragile patients, procedural sedation and analgesia are used to perform most of the procedures. General anesthesia remains the technique of choice during the team learning curve and might be required in selected patients or in emergent situations. Despite the high costs of percutaneous high tech cardiac procedures, the decrease in length of hospital stay, rate of i...

Genetic variations of Renin-angiontensin and Fibrinolytic systems and susceptibility to coronary artery disease: a population genetics perspective.
CONCLUSIONS: While there is a relationship between of PAI-1 gene 4G/5G polymorphism and CAD, ACE gene I/D and AT1 gene A1166C polymorphisms are not related. PAI-1 gene homozygous genotypes may be considered as a prognostic marker for CAD patients. PMID: 32989965 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Cardioangiologica)

Artificial intelligence in cardiothoracic surgery.
Authors: Dias RD, Shah JA, Zenati MA Abstract The tremendous and rapid technological advances that humans have achieved in the last decade have definitely impacted how surgical tasks are performed in the operating room (OR). As a high-tech work environment, the contemporary OR has incorporated novel computational systems into the clinical workflow, aiming to optimize processes and support the surgical team. Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly important for surgical decision making to help address diverse sources of information, such as patient risk factors, anatomy, disease natural history, patien...

Diagnostic yield of implantable loop recorders in patients with unexplained syncope: single-centre experience.
CONCLUSIONS: The diagnostic yield of ILR after initial inconclusive recommended diagnostic work-up in accordance with the relevant guidelines was high. The findings affirm ILR as an important diagnostic tool in contemporary management of syncope. PMID: 32989968 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Cardioangiologica)

Coronary artery anomalies and dominance: data from 7,858 patients in a single center in Turkey.
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of CAA was 1.1% in total and is compatible with other major studies. According to the Angelini CAA clasification, group B anomalies are observed more frequently than other studies. Cx dominance is moderately high.
