Radiofrequency catheter ablation of atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia in children and adolescents: a single center experience.
Conclusion: RFCA is safe and effective in pediatric AVNRT patients. However, further research is needed for establishing the endpoints of ablation in pediatric AVNRT patients and for identifying risk factors by evaluating data on AVNRT recurrence after RFCA. The influence of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists on anthropometric change in girls with central precocious puberty.
Conclusion: Among girls with CPP, the overall BMI z score for CA did not change significantly during or after GnRHa treatment discontinuation, regardless of their BMI status at visit 1. However, the BMI z score for BA showed an increasing trend during GnRHa treatment and a decreasing trend after discontinuation. Therefore, long-term follow-up of BMI changes among girls with CPP is required until they attain adult height. PMID: 29302264 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

The effect of low-dose intravenous bisphosphonate treatment on osteoporosis in children with quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
Conclusion: Low-dose pamidronate treatment for quadriplegic children with cerebral palsy increased lumbar BMD and reduced the incidence of fracture. PMID: 29302265 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

The First Korean case of combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency-17 diagnosed by clinical and molecular investigation.
We report a novel mutation in the ELAC2 gene (c.95C>G [p.Pro32Arg], het), in an infant with COXPD-17 who presented with encephalopathy including central apnea and intractable epilepsy, and growth and developmental retardation. During hospitalization, consistently elevated serum lactic acid levels were noted, indicative of mitochondrial dysfunction. The patient suddenly died of shock of unknown cause at 5 months of age. This is the first case report of COXPD-17 in Korea and was diagnosed based on clinical characteristics and genetic analysis. PMID: 29302266 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

The opportunities of virtual reality in the rehabilitation of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: a literature review.
Authors: Bashiri A, Ghazisaeedi M, Shahmoradi L Abstract Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in childhood. This disorder, in addition to its main symptoms, creates significant difficulties in education, social performance, and personal relationships. Given the importance of rehabilitation for these patients to combat the above issues, the use of virtual reality (VR) technology is helpful. The aim of this study was to highlight the opportunities for VR in the rehabilitation of children with ADHD. This narrative review was conducted by searching for...

Neonatal arrhythmias: diagnosis, treatment, and clinical outcome.
Authors: Ban JE Abstract Arrhythmias in the neonatal period are not uncommon, and may occur in neonates with a normal heart or in those with structural heart disease. Neonatal arrhythmias are classified as either benign or nonbenign. Benign arrhythmias include sinus arrhythmia, premature atrial contraction, premature ventricular contraction, and junctional rhythm; these arrhythmias have no clinical significance and do not need therapy. Supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, atrioventricular conduction abnormalities, and genetic arrhythmia such as congenital long-QT syndrome are classified a...

Hearing loss screening tool (COBRA score) for newborns in primary care setting.
Conclusion: A simple screening tool of five predictors provides good prediction indices for newborn hearing loss, which may motivate parents to bring children for further appropriate testing and investigations. PMID: 29234358 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Subtle inflammation: a possible mechanism of future cardiovascular risk in obese children.
Conclusion: We described a substantial prevalence of MetS in Thai obese children. Regardless of MetS status, two-thirds of the obese children had elevated hs-CRP level, indicating subtle ongoing inflammatory process. This chronic inflammation feasibly predisposes them to CVD in the future, even in children without MetS. PMID: 29234359 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Apoptosis and remodeling in adriamycin-induced cardiomyopathy rat model.
Conclusion: ADR induced an upregulation of caspase-3, Bax, IL-6, and collagen, as well as a depression in Bcl-2. Thus, apoptosis and fibrosis may play an important role in ADR-induced cardiomyopathy. PMID: 29234360 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

A comparative study of established z score models for coronary artery diameters in 181 healthy Korean children.
Conclusion: All 4 models showed statistical feasibility of normal distribution. More precise instructions would be needed for the measurement of the RCA. The higher percentage of extreme z scores for the LMCA is compatible with the basic understanding of anatomic variation in the LMCA. PMID: 29234361 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Fetal and preterm infant microbiomes: a new perspective of necrotizing enterocolitis.
Authors: Choi YS, Song IG Abstract Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a devastating condition of hospitalized preterm infants. Numerous studies have attempted to identify the cause of NEC by examining the immunological features associated with pathogenic microorganisms. No single organism has proven responsible for the disease; however, immunological studies are now focused on the microbiome. Recent research has investigated the numerous bacterial species residing in the body and their role in diseases in preterm infants. The timing of initial microbial colonization is a subject of interest. The microbiome...

Usefulness of the Korean Developmental Screening Test for infants and children for the evaluation of developmental delay in Korean infants and children: a single-center study.
Conclusion: This study demonstrated the usefulness of the K-DST as a screening test early in the development of infants and children in Korea. Data of normal control groups should be examined to determine the accuracy of this investigation. PMID: 29158765 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Local-food-based complementary feeding for the nutritional status of children ages 6-36 months in rural areas of Indonesia.
Conclusion: The NFCPP program with LFCF intervention can improve the nutritional status of children in rural areas. It should be implemented as a sustained program for better provision of complementary feeding during the period of lactation using local food made available at community health centers. Screening of SHOX gene sequence variants in Saudi Arabian children with idiopathic short stature.
Conclusion: In Saudi Arabia ISS patients, rather than SHOX, it is possible that new genes are involved in longitudinal growth. Additional molecular analysis is required to diagnose and understand the etiology of this disease. PMID: 29158767 [PubMed] (Source: Korean Journal of Pediatrics)

Acute pancreatitis in hand, foot and mouth disease caused by Coxsackievirus A16: case report.
We report a case of CA16-associated acute pancreatitis in a 3-year-old girl with HFMD. She was admitted because of poor oral intake and high fever for 1 day. Maculopapular rashes on both hands and feet and multiple vesicles on the soft palate were observed on physical examination. She was treated conservatively with intravenous fluids. On the fourth hospital day, she had severe abdominal pain and vomiting. The serum levels of amylase and lipase were remarkably elevated (amylase, 1,902 IU/L; reference range, 28-100 IU/L; lipase, >1,500 IU/L; reference range, 13-60 IU/L), and ultrasonography showed diffuse swelling of the...
