Prevalence and incidence density of unavoidable pressure ulcers in elderly patients admitted to medical units
To describe the prevalence and incidence density of hospital-acquired unavoidable pressure sores among patients aged ≥65 years admitted to acute medical units. A secondary analysis of longitudinal study data collected in 2012 and 2013 from 12 acute medical units located in 12 Italian hospitals was performed. Unavoidable pressure ulcers were defined as those that occurred in haemodynamically unstable patients, su ffering from cachexia and/or terminally ill and were acquired after hospital admission. Preliminary development of an advanced modular pressure relief cushion: Testing and user evaluation
Effective pressure relief cushions are identified as a core assistive technology need by the World Health Organization Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology. High quality affordable wheelchair cushions could provide effective pressure relief for many individuals with limited access to advanced assistive technology. (Source: Journal of Tissue Viability)

Trends of reactive hyperaemia responses to repetitive loading on skin tissue of rats – Implications for pressure ulcer prevention
In this study, the effect of different recovery times on RH trend is investigated during repetitive loading. Twenty-one male Sprague-Dawley rats (seven per group), with body weight of 385 –485 g, were categorised into three groups and subjected to different recovery times with three repetitive loading cycles. Editorial for Special JTV EPUAP Focus Meeting 2016 Issue
In 1996 the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) was founded, providing a platform for interdisciplinary researchers and clinicians, with the aim of improving pressure ulcer prevention and treatment across Europe through research, education and influencing national policy in European countries. Important activities of the EPUAP which bring together clinicians, researchers, and industry to present and exchange new ideas, empirical data and to discuss pressure ulcer care from various perspectives include the EPUAP Annual Conference and bi-annual EPUAP Focus Meetings. Maltodextrin/ascorbic acid stimulates wound closure by increasing collagen turnover and TGF- β1 expression in vitro and changing the stage of inflammation from chronic to acute in vivo
It has been reported that carbohydrates confer physicochemical properties to the wound environment that improves tissue repair. We evaluated in vitro and in vivo wound healing during maltodextrin/ascorbic acid treatment. In a fibroblast monolayer scratch assay, we demonstrated that maltodextrin/ascorbic acid stimulated monolayer repair by increasing collagen turnover coordinately with TGF- β1 expression (rising TGF-β1 and MMP-1 expression, as well as gelatinase activity, while TIMP-1 was diminished), similar to in vivo trends. Molecular finds of pressure ulcer: A bioinformatics approach in pressure ulcer
Understanding the biological processes underlying Pressure Ulcer (PU) is an important strategy to identify new molecular targets. Bioinformatics has emerged as an important screening tool for a broad range of diseases. (Source: Journal of Tissue Viability)

A survey of patients with surgical wounds healing by secondary intention; an assessment of prevalence, aetiology, duration and management
Surgical wounds healing by secondary intention (SWHSI) are often difficult and costly to treat. There is a dearth of clinical and research information regarding SWHSI. The aim of this survey was to estimate the prevalence of SWHSI and to characterise the aetiology, duration and management of these wounds. (Source: Journal of Tissue Viability)

Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Cardiff Wound Impact Schedule to Brazilian Portuguese
To translate into Brazilian Portuguese and cross-culturally adapt the Cardiff Wound Impact Schedule, a specific measure of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for patients with chronic wounds. Chronic wounds have a relevant impact on the HRQoL of patients. However, there are few instruments cross-culturally adapted and validated in Brazil to assess HRQoL in patients with wounds. Effect of Omegaven on mast cell concentration in diabetic wound healing
Diabetic wound healing is a complicated process. In all over the world 15% of 200 million diabetic people suffer from diabetic foot problems. Mast cells are known to participate in three phases of wound healing: the inflammatory reaction, angiogenesis and extracellular-matrix reabsorption. The inflammatory reaction is mediated by released histamine and arachidonic acid metabolites. Omega-3 fatty acids alter proinflammatory cytokine production during wound healing which affects the presence of inflammatory cells in wound area as well, but how this events specifically influences the presence of mast cells in wound healing is...
