Using Ultrasound Elastography to Monitor Human Soft Tissue Behaviour during Prolonged Loading: a Clinical Explorative Study
Pressure ulcers are localized injuries to the skin or underlying tissues over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure in combination with shear. Ultrasound imaging techniques are widely applied to detect and to investigate pressure ulcer pathogenesis and healing, but due to missing structural alterations, very early signs of tissue alterations are not detectable. Ultrasound elastography was proposed as a new method to measure very early signs of pressure ulcer development but this was not investigated in humans so far. (Source: Journal of Tissue Viability)

Effects on interface pressure and tissue oxygenation under ischial tuberosities during the application of an alternating cushion
In this study, we researched the effects of applying an air cell inflate-deflate alternating sequence cushion prototype to relieve pressure from tissue loaded areas. Moreover, the hypothesis that the alternating sequence could stimulate blood reperfusion in loaded tissues and redistribute interface pressure on support area was also tested. What is different for people with MS who have pressure ulcers: A reflective study of the impact upon people's quality of life?
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a progressive, degenerative disease of the central nervous system. People with advanced disease who have compromised mobility, activity, sensory and/or cognitive abilities are at risk of pressure ulcers. Having a pressure ulcer has a substantial impact on a person's quality of life; a generic pressure ulcer Health Related Quality of Life (HRQL) framework has been used in this study. Predictive validity of the Braden Scale for pressure ulcer risk in hospitalized patients
Although the Braden Scale has been used as a basic tool to assess pressure ulcer risk, the validity of its effectiveness and accuracy was insufficient. Therefore, this study developed the groundwork for the predictive validity of the Braden Scale through a meta-analysis of prospective diagnosis assessment research. Skin response to sustained loading: A clinical explorative study
Severe illness, disability and immobility increase the risk of pressure ulcer development. Pressure ulcers are localized injuries to the skin and/or underlying tissue as a result of long enduring pressure and shear. Little is known about the role of the stratum corneum and the upper skin layers in superficial pressure ulcer development. (Source: Journal of Tissue Viability)

Wrinkling over finger tip
A 12 year-old child presented with verrucae over the tips of left second and third fingers. Removal of lesions with ablative carbon-di-oxide LASER was planned. Informed consent was obtained from the father. A cream containing eutectic mixture of local anaesthetic (EMLA) was applied over the left second and third fingers. A total dose of about 0.5 gm was applied over the involved fingers. Cream was applied under occlusion covering digital pulp and dorsal aspect of distal phalanx. The occlusion tape was removed after one hour of application of EMLA cream. (Source: Journal of Tissue Viability)

Establishing community wound prevalence within an inner London borough: Exploring the complexities
The academic literature reveals a dearth of evidence regarding the wound prevalence across a community setting, despite the need for both clinicians and commissioners to understand local need. To support the commissioning process, a wound prevalence audit was undertaken across all community services in an inner London borough in 2012 as part of a local needs analysis and to identify where resources were required. Within a population of 254,000, 272 residents had a total of 325 wounds, giving a mean of 1.19 wounds and a community wound prevalence of 1.07 per 1000 residents.
