Orthodontic evaluation by cluster and factor analyses from 2D frontal and lateral profilograms derived from 3D CBCT images
Conclusions Orthodontic evaluation could be approached by mapping any profilogram to our prototypes. M1 had skeletal Class 3 deep bite. M2 showed Class 2 open bite. Women revealed similar forward growth pattern, whereas male clusters distinguished divergence or convergence clearly. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

Facial growth pattern: Association between lower incisor position and symphyseal morphology
Conclusions Symphyseal morphology is correlated to facial growth pattern and lower incisal inclination. There are biological limits to inclination movements of the lower incisor in narrow symphysis, which are usually found in vertical growth patterns. Extraction or preservation of deciduous molars in early mixed dentition as an interceptive treatment in agenesis of mandibular premolars in normal occlusion: a systematic review
Conclusions There are no published studies comparing patient benefits or risks of interceptive extraction of deciduous molars with preserving the deciduous molar as if it was a permanent tooth in children in the early mixed dentition with agenesis of mandibular premolars. Well-designed, longitudinal, prospective controlled studies are needed. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

Maxillary arch distalization using interradicular miniscrews and the lever-arm appliance: A case report
This report suggests that interradicular miniscrews, together with the lever-arm appliance, are useful to allow three-dimensional control while distalizing the maxillary molars for correcting a Class II malocclusion. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

Effects of height and overactivation on a composite nickel-titanium T-loop
Conclusion The 6-mm-high T-loops produced higher forces, but lower M/F. The conventional protocol produced higher forces and moments. The M/F ratio was similar for both protocols, but overactivation produced a nearly constant M/F throughout deactivation. The use of a 7-mm-high overactivated segmented nickel-titanium loop might improve the performance of orthodontic space closure. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

In vitro assessment of maximum insertion and removal torque with three different miniscrews on artificial maxilla and mandible
Conclusion It is suggested to perform a pre-insertion drilling due to the higher insertion torque in the posterior mandible, to maintain an acceptable range of maximum insertion torque and achieve primary stability without unnecessary bone damage. It is concluded that the screw design as well as bone characteristics have significant effects on the stability of the screw. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

Long-term evaluation of the effect of low-level laser therapy on  orthodontic miniscrew stability and peri-implant gingival condition: A randomized clinical trial
Conclusions LLLT can be suggested as a clinical adjuvant for improving clinical success with miniscrew treatment. However, more long-term studies incorporating more study subjects is deemed necessary to further validate the study results. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

Bacteremic capacity of a minimally invasive flapless accelerated orthodontic technique
Conclusion A minimally invasive flapless accelerated orthodontic technique is not related to transitory bacteremia, as Streptococcus oralis was detected in only two postoperative samples. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

Determination of timing of functional and interceptive orthodontic treatment: A critical approach to growth indicators
Conclusion Although not all growth indicators proved to be fully reliable and in spite of the limitation of present evidence, the use of these growth indicators is recommended both in clinical practice and research. (Source: Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists)

Multipurpose orthodontic system using palatal implants for solving extremely complex orthodontic problems
Publication date: June 2017 Source:Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists, Volume 6, Issue 2 Author(s): Yasuhiro Itsuki, Eisaku Imamura Asymmetrical treatment mechanics are one of the most complex treatment options. Three dimensional force analysis must be completed, then approaches that can produce a three dimensional force system, such as palatal implants, are beneficial. A 37-year-old female with skeletal Class III required very complex mechanics because the maxillary right side showed a transpositioned second premolar, ectopic eruption of the second molar, large periapical lesion of the lateral incisor an...
