Do Surgical Outcomes for Ascending Aortic Dissection Vary Based on Arterial Cannulation?
The optimal method for arterial cannulation in acute aortic dissection surgical repair remains controversial. The aim of this study was to compare central ascending aortic, axillary, and femoral cannulation in patients who underwent surgery for acute ascending aortic dissection. Gradual Oxygen Reexposure Improves Outcomes During Cabg for Acute Myocardial Infarction
We compared mortality, post MI LV function, rehospitalization for CHF or ICD in patients undergoing emergency bypass surgery (CABG); exposed to hyperoxia vs gradual oxygen. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)

Systematic Review of Graft Patency after Robotically Assisted Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery
Robotically assisted coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (RACABG) avoids the morbidities of a sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass and is becoming increasingly popular. Robotically assisted minimally invasive direct CABG (RMIDCAB) and totally endoscopic CABG (TECAB) have been shown to have similar patency rates compared to conventional CABG (Left internal mammary artery patency: 98%, 95%, 88% at 5, 10 and 15 years, respectively). A systematic review was performed to evaluate graft patency and clinical outcomes in patients who underwent RACABG. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)

Utility of Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing in Patients Undergoing Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation
Dysphagia is a common postoperative complication following cardiac surgery and is associated with adverse health related outcomes. In end-stage heart failure patients undergoing durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, we sought to evaluate the impact of fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). A Comparison of Robotic and Laparoscopic Colectomy Using the 2019 ACS NSQIP Database
In the past decade, robot-assisted laparoscopic surgeries (RLS) have become more common alongside conventional laparoscopic surgeries (CLS). RLS have been reported to be superior to CLS, therefore, we compared both methods among patients undergoing colectomies for differences in perioperative factors and postoperative complications. A Descriptive Analysis of a Learning-Curve Cohort: Prospective Study of the First 2 Years of a Newly Established Robotic Colorectal Surgery Program at a Tertiary Care Centre
The latest robotic platform has made 4-quadrant robotic abdomino-pelvic surgery technically easier. A direct beneficiary of this development is colorectal surgery. Worldwide, there is an increasing uptake of robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) for colorectal conditions including for cancer. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)

Delphi Consensus Recommendations on Intraoperative Technical Aspects for the Prevention of Surgical Site Infection in Colorectal Surgery Compared with Global/National Surgical Site Infection Prevention Guidelines
Colorectal surgery has the highest surgical site infection (SSI) rates among elective procedures. Broad recommendations exist for SSI prevention that are often non-specific to procedure type. The study objective was to develop expert consensus on intraoperative practices for SSI prevention, specific to colorectal surgery, and to compare these results with published guidance. Does Adherence to National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) Process Measures Lead to Better Outcomes in the Management of Rectal Cancer? Initial Experience From the First NAPRC Accredited Center in the Country
The National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) was necessitated because there was a great variability in the outcomes of rectal cancer care in the United States. There has been no published study that has evaluated the impact of NAPRC accreditation of a rectal cancer program in improving the outcomes. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)

Gracilis Muscle Interposition: A Valuable Tool for the Treatment of Failed Rectovaginal Fistula Repair Due to Obstetric Injury: Single Center Experience
Rectovaginal fistulas (RVFs) account for approximately 40% of anorectal complications from obstetrical trauma. Treatment can be challenging requiring multiple surgical repairs. Interposition of healthy transposed tissue (lotus or Martius flap or gracilis muscle) have been used for recurrent RVF. We aimed to review our experience with gracilis muscle interposition (GMI) for RVF due to obstetric injury. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)

Hospital Cost Associated with Preventing and Managing Iatrogenic Ureteral Injury in Inpatient Elective Colectomy
There have been debates about whether preoperative ureteral catheterization/stenting (PUC) could identify and prevent IUI in abdominopelvic surgeries. There is also limited information on whether PUC can save hospital costs. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)
