Interproximal Open Contacts Between Implant Restorations and Adjacent Teeth. Prevalence – Causes – Possible Solutions
ConclusionsICL is a common multifactorial implant complication. The clinical condition will dictate if the implant crown needs to be modified/replaced or the natural tooth needs to be restored to reestablish interproximal contact between an implant prosthesis and adjacent tooth. Periodic evaluations of interproximal contacts between implant restorations and the adjacent teeth and the use of screw ‐retained restorations due to ease of removal is recommended to diagnose and mitigate the problem. An orthodontic retainer or occlusal guard may help prevent ICL between the implant restoration and the adjacent tooth. (Source: J...

A New Device to Prevent Aspiration or Swallowing of Implant Screwdrivers
AbstractThe screwdriver harness is potentially a life ‐saving device. It allows the clinician to work intraorally with a handheld screwdriver without the concern of unintentionally losing contact with the driver, risking the possibility of aspiration or swallowing by the patient. Nonimplant, Nonadhesive Overlay Approach to Retain a Partial Auricular Prosthesis
AbstractPartial auricular prosthesis fabrication presents a more complex challenge than complete ear fabrication, with added aspects of merging/camouflaging a larger prosthetic marginal area, pattern try ‐in, and compromised retention. Better alternatives are excision of the remnant ear to make an implant‐retained complete ear prosthesis or surgical reconstruction of the missing ear portion. Both need additional surgery/ies and expenses, neither of which may be acceptable to the patient. This re port describes a prosthesis fabrication approach for such patients. This approach does not require implants or adhesives for ...

Multidisciplinary Management of a Severe Maxillary Midline Diastema: A Clinical Report
AbstractA maxillary midline diastema (MMD) is a common form of incomplete occlusion and often is a primary complaint of patients during dental consultations. MMD is considered to be a multifactorial phenomenon and can therefore be best restored with a multidisciplinary approach. This clinical report presents a multidisciplinary approach to the management of a 4.0 ‐mm MMD by using limited orthodontics combined with periodontal and prosthodontic treatments. Shark Fin Titanium Hollow Bulb Obturator: A Treatment Concept
AbstractRestoring esthetics and function for patients with maxillectomy defects presents a complex challenge for the clinician. Obturator prostheses are subject to rotational forces during function, allowing movement into the defect. Gaining prosthesis support from endosseous implants can limit the amount of rotation. Xerostomia and impaired tissue healing caused by radiation therapy further complicates the treatment for such patients. Several resilient and rigid obturator design concepts are available for restoration of such defects. This clinical report describes a design concept used to treat a patient with a maxillecto...
