A Painting Technique Using Ceramic Pigments for the Artificial Iris of an Ocular Prosthesis Guided by Applying Newton's Color Wheel
This article describes a simple method for painting an artificial iris for the manufacturing of an ocular prosthesis with dark and light tones, both with excellent esthetic results. The challenge of choosing colors around the pupil and medium zone during painting is aided by the application of Newton's color wheel theory. This technique provides a safer choice of color during the painting procedure by using a mixture of ceramic pigments. (Source: Journal of Prosthodontics)

A Comparison of the Flexural and Impact Strengths and Flexural Modulus of CAD/CAM and Conventional Heat ‐Cured Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA)
ConclusionsAs CAD/CAM PMMA specimens exhibited improved flexural strength, flexural modulus, and impact strength in comparison to the conventional heat ‐cured groups, CAD/CAM dentures are expected to be more durable. Different brands of CAD/CAM PMMA may have inherent variations in mechanical properties. (Source: Journal of Prosthodontics)

Private Practice of Prosthodontists in the United States: Results from the 2017 Survey of Prosthodontists and Trends Since 2001
ConclusionChanges have continued to take place in the private practice of prosthodontics during most of the last decade. The average age of prosthodontists has declined since 2010. Hours in practice and hours treating patients have declined at a rate of about 1% per year since 2001. Mean net earnings of prosthodontists have declined at a rate of 1.6% since 2001 and 3.1% per year since 2007. The prosthodontist private practice industry, not unlike dentistry as a whole, has undergone economic and practice challenges that have affected the conditions of private practice during the last decade. ConclusionsWhen performed regularly, the mechanical polishing procedure tested reduces the changes in artificial teeth subjected to immersion in coffee, with the biweekly frequency most effective regarding the properties evaluated. (Source: Journal of Prosthodontics)

The Effect of Food ‐Simulating Agents on the Bond Strength of Hard Chairside Reline Materials to Denture Base Resin
ConclusionsFood simulating agents did not adversely affect the shear bond strength of Hard GC Reline; however, ethanol and heptane decreased the bond strength of Tokuyama and TDV, respectively. These findings may provide support to dentists to recommend restricted consumption of some foods and beverages for patients who have to use dentures relined with certain hard liners. How the Variations of the Thickness in Ceramic Restorations of Lithium Disilicate and the Use of Different Photopolymerizers Influence the Degree of Conversion of the Resin Cements: A Systematic Review and Meta ‐Analysis
ConclusionsThe thinner the ceramic material, the higher the degree of conversion. A thickness greater than 1.0 mm drastically reduces the degree of conversion of dual ‐curing or light‐curing resins. The curing unit with irradiance of 3200 to 3505 mW/cm2 showed improvements in conversion values. (Source: Journal of Prosthodontics)

Minimally Invasive Treatment of an Adult with Severe Pseudo Class III Malocclusion
AbstractPseudo class III malocclusion is reverse anterior occlusion or anterior cross ‐bite with first molars and canines in a class I relationship. It is very important to diagnose the pseudo class III from true skeletal class III. The combination of anterior displacement of the mandible, tooth wear, and loss of occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) in adults may result anterior cross ‐bite. The key factor in diagnosis of this malocclusion is an interdisciplinary approach with an orthodontist. Cephalometric images are essential for diagnosis of pseudo class III mal‐occlusion. Most relevant publications on correcting thi...
