Cumulative effects of ciprofloxacin and pilocarpine on cytotoxicity and G0 phase arrest in hepatoma ‐derived Hep G2 cell line
ConclusionsCiprofloxacin imposed mitochondrial ‐independent apoptosis while PILO + CPF caused mitochondrial‐dependent and independent apoptosis simultaneously. Consequently, coadministration of PILO and CPF causes intense cytotoxic effects through targeting the mitochondria, DNA gyrase enzyme and other unknown mechanisms. Kaempferol ameliorates secretagogue ‐induced pseudo‐allergic reactions via inhibiting intracellular calcium fluctuation
ConclusionsThe inhibition of the process of PLC γ phosphorylation to Ca2+ mobilization represents a major strategy in Kaempferol ‐suppressed pseudo‐allergic reactions. Thus, Kaempferol could be considered as a therapeutic drug candidate for non‐IgE‐mediated allergic reactions or inflammations. (Source: Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology)

LncRNA Fendrr inhibits hypoxia/reoxygenation ‐induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis by downregulating p53 expression
ConclusionsFendrr can inhibit H/R ‐induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis, which is partly through promoting the ubiquitination and degradation of p53 by increasing the binding of Cop1 and p53. (Source: Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology)

Bioactive indanes: insight into the bioactivity of indane dimers related to the lead anti ‐inflammatory molecule PH46A
ConclusionsThe observed profile of cytokine modulation (IL ‐6/ TNF‐α, IL‐8) and inhibition of release of NO and 5‐LOX may contribute to thein vivo effects demonstrated by indane dimers and PH46A (1) in murine models of colitis. (Source: Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology)

Encapsulation of curcumin into layered double hydroxides improve their anticancer and antiparasitic activity
ConclusionsLayered double hydroxides are good vehicles to improve stability, resistance to degradation of CUR, also they are useful to improve solubility, provide a controlled release and improve the cytotoxic activity. Additionally, it was shown that the composition of the M+2 cation of LDH affects its properties and structure and that this directly influences its biological activity. The findings are important to select the composition of the encapsulation vehicle for a specific activity. (Source: Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology)

Development of a Gaussian Process – feature selection model to characterise (poly)dimethylsiloxane (Silastic®) membrane permeation
ConclusionsThis study highlights important considerations in the development of relevant models and in the construction and use of the data sets used in such studies, particularly that highly correlated descriptors should be removed from data sets. Predictive models are improved by the methodology adopted in this study, notably the systematic evaluation of descriptors, rather than simply using any and all available descriptors, often based empirically onin vitro experiments. Such findings also have clear relevance to a number of other fields. (Source: Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology)

Pyoluteorin induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human triple ‐negative breast cancer cells MDA‐MB‐231
ConclusionOur studies revealed that pyoluteorin had potent proliferation inhibition against MDA ‐MB‐231 cells through arresting cell cycle at G2/M phase and inducing caspase ‐3‐dependent apoptosis by mitochondrial pathway, implying that pyoluteorin may be a potential lead compound for drug discovery of human triple‐negative breast cancer. Treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy: a review
The objectives of this paper are to review current guidelines for the pharmacological management of DPN and to discuss research rel evant to the further development of pharmacological recommendations for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy.SummaryDiabetic neuropathy is a highly prevalent, disabling condition, the management of which is associated with significant costs. Evidence supports the use of specific anticonvulsants and antidepressants for pain management in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. All current guidelines advise a personalised approach with a low ‐dose start that is tailored to the maximum re...
