Comparison of the effects of bepridil and aprindine for the prevention of atrial fibrillation after cardiac and aortic surgery: A prospective randomized study
Conclusion Bepridil, at a fixed dose of 100mg/day, was considered to be more effective than a routine dose of aprindine for the prevention of postoperative AF recurrence. (Source: Journal of Arrhythmia)

Permanent cardiac pacing in a patient with persistent left superior vena cava and concomitant agenesis of the right-sided superior vena cava
We describe a case of successful single-chamber pacemaker implantation in a 76-year-old woman with a PLSVC and concomitant agenesis of the right-sided superior vena cava, after failed attempts with the conventional procedure. The pacemaker had been working well after 12 months of follow-up. (Source: Journal of Arrhythmia)

Usefulness of brain natriuretic peptide for predicting left atrial appendage thrombus in patients with unanticoagulated nonvalvular persistent atrial fibrillation
Conclusions In patients with unanticoagulated NVAF, a BNP level >251.2pg/mL may be helpful for predicting the incidence of LAA thrombus and may be used as a surrogate marker of CHF. The BNP level is clinically useful for the risk stratification of systemic thromboembolism in patients with unanticoagulated NVAF. (Source: Journal of Arrhythmia)

Reduced systemic vascular resistance is the underlying hemodynamic mechanism in nitrate-stimulated vasovagal syncope during head-up tilt-table test
Conclusions Presyncopal symptoms during NTG-stimulated HUTT are SVR mediated, not cardiac output mediated. This study challenges the conventional idea of a decrease in cardiac output mediated by NTG as the overriding cause of presyncopal symptoms during HUTT. (Source: Journal of Arrhythmia)

Ablation of an atriofascicular accessory pathway with a zero-fluoroscopy procedure
Publication date: Available online 22 April 2015 Source:Journal of Arrhythmia Author(s): Riccardo Proietti , Sylvia Abadir , Martin L. Bernier , Vidal Essebag A 16-year-old patient with recurrent palpitations and documented left bundle branch block superior axis wide complex tachycardia underwent an electrophysiological study and ablation with a zero-fluoroscopy procedure. The electrophysiological study showed a decremental antegrade conducting atriofascicular pathway. Three-dimensional CARTO-guided mapping of the tricuspid annulus in sinus rhythm was performed, and a distinct signal corresponding to the accessory ...

A case of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with a non-pulmonary vein trigger identified by intravenous adenosine triphosphate infusion
Publication date: Available online 22 April 2015 Source:Journal of Arrhythmia Author(s): Masahiro Esato , Naoto Nishina , Yoshitomi Kida , YeongHwa Chun A 54-year-old woman was referred to our institution with frequent chest discomfort and was diagnosed with drug-refractory paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) was performed using a three-dimensional electroanatomic mapping system. After completion of left and right circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI), an intravenous bolus of adenosine triphosphate (ATP, 20mg) was administered to evaluate the electric reconduction betwe...

Conclusion Enlargement of the mitral isthmus and a smaller right superior PV cross-sectional area were associated with AF recurrence. (Source: Journal of Arrhythmia)

A 63-year-old man with a history of myocardial infarction demonstrated a transient coved-type ECG change dur...
