Late open conversion in ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm after endovascular repair
Abstract Despite technological advances, the long-term outcomes of endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) are still debatable. Although most endograft failures after EVAR can be corrected with endovascular techniques, open conversion may still be required. A 70-year-old male patient presented at the emergency unit with abdominal pain. Twice, in the third and fourth years after the first repair, a stent graft had been placed over a non-adhesive portion of the stent graft due to type Ia endoleaks. In the most recent admission, a CT scan showed type III endoleak and ruptured aneurysm sac. On this occasion the patient und...

Variations in the origin and course of the suprascapular artery: case report and literature review
Abstract The suprascapular artery is normally a branch of the thyrocervical trunk of the subclavian artery. During dissection of the left upper limb of a female cadaver, aged 70 years and fixed in 10% formalin solution, the suprascapular artery was observed aberrantly arising from the first part of the axillary artery. Later, it coursed obliquely behind the clavicle bone and brachial plexus to reach the suprascapular notch, where it was accompanied by the suprascapular nerve. Then, both suprascapular nerve and artery anomalously traversed beneath the transverse scapular ligament. It then irrigated the supraspinatus muscles...

Adventitial cystic disease of the popliteal artery: case report
We report the case of a 51 year-old male patient presenting with lower-limb intermittent claudication in whom this pathology was diagnosed and who was treated with segmental arterial resection and autologous saphenous vein interposition. We also discuss diagnostic and therapeutic alternatives. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)

Persistent sciatic artery aneurysm: case report of endovascular treatment
This report describes the case of a female patient complaining of a pulsating mass in the left buttock. She was referred to a Vascular Service where an angiotomography showed complete bilateral persistence of the sciatic artery, with an aneurysm of the left sciatic artery. The aneurysm was treated with endovascular techniques, via a contralateral approach, with placement of two stent grafts and preservation of distal patency. Patency is particularly important in cases of this anatomical variation in which the persistent sciatic artery is complete. This patient recovered well. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)

Comparison of open and endovascular surgery for treatment of popliteal artery aneurysm: a review
The objective of this study is to conduct a literature review on comparisons between open surgery and endovascular treatment for popliteal artery aneurysms. Searches were run on the LILACS and MEDLINE databases using the appropriate search terms and 15 articles were selected. A total of 5,166 surgical procedures were compared, 3,930 open surgeries and 1,236 endovascular surgeries. Open surgery with venous bypass is still the gold standard. Endovascular surgery offers shorter length of hospital stay and is a viable option for elective patients, those with short life expectancy, high surgical risk, comorbidities, and more ad...

Endovascular vs. open repair of popliteal artery aneurysm: review article

Deep venous thrombosis prevention in bariatric surgery: comparative study of different doses of low weight molecular heparin
Conclusions There were no statistical differences when higher doses of LWMH were used for prevention of DVT in bariatric surgery patients, in terms of DVT risk, anti-Xa factor levels, or preoperative and postoperative bleeding. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)

Development of a clinical model to predict the likelihood of identification of the Adamkiewicz artery by angiotomography
Conclusions Using the covariates ethnicity, body mass index, smoking, arterial hypertension, and dyslipidemia, it proved possible to create a mathematical model for predicting identification of the AKA with a combined significance of nine coefficients (p = 0.042). Factors associated with outcome of endovascular treatment of iliac occlusive disease: a single-center experience
Conclusions TASC type C/D was associated with a higher number of reinterventions and with worse limb loss and primary patency rates. Male gender was associated with a worse survival rate after ET of IOD.Resumo Contexto O tratamento endovascular da doen ça oclusiva ilíaca (DOI) é bem estabelecido.

Isolated ruptured aneurysm of the superficial femoral artery: case report

Clinical discussion of the arteria lusoria: a case report
This article reports the variation and discusses its embryological, clinical and surgical aspects.

Treatment of recurrent varicosity of the great saphenous vein arch via proximal access
Abstract The...
