Using vacuum therapy as an adjunctive treatment for healing of infected surgical sites
We present a case of a patient with multiple comorbidities who had undergone an aortobifemoral bypass 6 years previously and then re-intervention at the femoral anastomoses for restenosis 5 years previously. The patient presented with acute left inguinal pain and swelling and was diagnosed with a ruptured femoral pseudoaneurysm and hemodynamic instability. A repair was conducted by interposition of a silver-coated Dacron graft in the emergency room, and a large abdominal incisional hernia was repaired with synthetic mesh during the same intervention. After surgery, the patient remained intubated in intensive care for a lon...

Surface Length 3D: An OsiriX plugin for measuring length over surfaces
Abstract Traditional DICOM medical imaging software off...

Early diagnosis of atherosclerosis with panoramic radiographs: a review
The objective of this study is to highlight the importance of panoramic radiographs for diagnosis of arterial disease, by means of a bibliographic review. The PubMed database was searched using the keywords “ atherosclerosis ” and “ panoramic ” , with the filters “ last 5 years ” and “ humans ” . Twenty articles were identified, six of which were chosen for this study because they were open access. The review concluded that panoramic radiographs enable early diagnosis of carotid artery calcification, resulting in earlier interventions, and offer an accessible cost.Resumo Doen ças das artérias carótidas...

Venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in pregnancy

The clinical importance of air plethysmography in the assessment of chronic venous disease
Abstract Air plethysmography is a non-invasive test that can quantify venous reflux and obstruction by measuring volume changes in the leg. Its findings correlate with clinical and hemodynamic measures. It can quantitatively assess several components of venous hemodynamics: valvular reflux, calf muscle pump function, and venous obstruction. Although clinical uses of air plethysmography have been validated, it is used almost exclusively for medical research. Air plethysmography can be used to assess chronic venous disease, to evaluate improvement after venous surgery, to diagnose acute and past episodes of deep venous throm...
