Solitary fibrous tumor of the upper lip: Report of a pediatric case
We report a case of a large SFT affecting the upper lip of a one year-old boy. The tumor was characterized by proliferation of spindle and multinucleated stellate-shaped cells that were intermingled between thin and thick collagen fibers. The tumor cells were diffusely positive for CD34, Bcl-2, CD99, and negative for specific muscle actin, smooth muscle actin, calponin, and caldesmon. Ki-67 labeling was less than 1%. Oropharyngeal foreign body penetrating to carotid space in a child
Penetrating oropharyngeal sharp foreign bodies migrating to carotid space are very rare and may injure neurovascular structures, removal of which is challenging to both surgeon and anesthetist (Incollingo and Shevchenko, 2007; Caldwell, 1936). Here we present an unusual case of a three year child with accidental penetration of blunt object (pen cap) into oropharynx, migrated to carotid space and presented as a swelling in the mid part of posterior triangle of the neck. Diagnostic radiology to know the relationship of the foreign body with carotid artery & IJV, difficulties in intubation and surgical approach to remove the ...

Acute suppurative parotitis associated with orbital and vascular complications: A case report
We report the case of a young female who presented with facial swelling, trismus and diplopia. She was found to have ASP complicated by orbital abscess, cavernous sinus thrombosis, carotid arteritis, and cerebral infarction. Cultures from parotid abscess needle aspiration, orbitotomy and blood sampling returned fusobacterium necrophorum. After a lengthy course of antibiotics and anticoagulation, the patient recovered to near-baseline status. (Source: International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Extra)

Abscess formation after hyaluronic acid injection laryngoplasty in an infant
We report the first documented case of a laryngeal abscess after injection laryngoplasty with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid injection is generally considered a safe procedure with the occurrence of local self-limited side effects. The patient of interest developed acute signs of distress and shortness of breath 6 days post-injection of the laryngeal cleft. This is the first case report of an abscess post-laryngoplasty treatment in the pediatric population. This raises the importance of close monitoring of the patients during the first week after surgery. (Source: International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Extra)
