Pituitary Metastasis of Breast Cancer: A Case Report
We report a case of a 63-year-old woman with a history of bilateral breast cancer with surgery 15 years ago on the left side and 8 years ago on the right side. A pituitary macroadenoma was first suspected because of a visual disturbance for months before a magnetic resonance imaging examination. The final histopathological and immunohistochemistry analysis confirmed a pituitary metastasis of breast mucinous carcinoma. Postoperative follow-up continued for 2.5 half years, and the subsequent clinical imaging studies did ...

Publication date: Available online 4 September 2017Source: International Journal of GerontologyAuthor(s): Ho-Tsung Hsin, Yun-Kai Lee, Cheng-Wei Lu, Tzu-Yu Lin, Jiann-Shing ShiehSummaryHeart rate variability (HRV), analyzed by non-linear methods confer prognostic values. HRV of a heart reviving from extracorporeal circulation (EC) has not been elaborated. We applied Multi-scale entropy (MSE) and Detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) to study the HRV of patients receiving open-heart surgeries needing EC, during which the heart is standstill. Thirty-four patients were enrolled. ECG was recorded continuously. The analyses were ...

Underreporting of Death Certification in a University Teaching Hospital – A Hospital Based Study in Ireland
ConclusionsWhile the actual cause of death was accurately completed in the death certificates reviewed in this audit, the majority of certificates in both age groups omitted one or more important comorbidity. This result may be due to an inappropriate over-emphasis in training on accurate documentation of the correct cause of death. (Source: International Journal of Gerontology)

Relationships of Age and Gender with Ankle-brachial Systolic Pressure Index and Cardio-ankle Vascular Index in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus
ConclusionIn male and female patients with diabetes, ABI was not associated with CAVI. Age was related more strongly with CAVI than with ABI. Thus, CAVI is thought to be a more reliable marker than ABI for atherosclerotic progression in patients with diabetes. (Source: International Journal of Gerontology)

The Application of EUS-guided FNA in the Diagnosis of Pancreatic Neoplasms in the Elderly
ConclusionAlthough EUS-FNA is safe and well tolerated in the elderly patients, our study showed a lower EUS-FNA diagnosis accuracy in this group. Focal fibrotic changes in the pancreas associated with the elderly patients resembled that of chronic pancreatitis microscopically. (Source: International Journal of Gerontology)

Thromboelastography evaluation of low response to clopidogrel in patients with acute coronary syndrome
ConclusionPartial ACS patients receiving standard antiplatelet therapy exhibited low response to clopidogrel, which was not affected by the age, combined therapy, or administration method of Clopidogrel, and the patients with low response to aspirin and daily smoking 10 or less cigarettes were more susceptible to low response to clopidogrel.
