A patient decision aid for risk ‐reducing surgery in premenopausal BRCA1/2 mutation carriers: Development process and pilot testing
Discussion and conclusionsBoth BRCA1/2 mutation carriers and professionals are willing to use or offer the developed patient decision aids for risk‐reducing surgery. The patient decision aids have been found clear, balanced and comprehensible. Future testing among patients facing the decision should point out its effectiveness in improving decision making. Empowering people to help speak up about safety in primary care: Using codesign to involve patients and professionals in developing new interventions for patients with multimorbidity
ConclusionsThe process was feasible and acceptable to participants, who valued the opportunity to jointly propose new interventions. The iterative workshop approach enabled the research team to better explore and refine the suggestions of attendees. Final recommendations included the need for accessible reminders to support medication adherence and medication reviews for particularly vulnerable patients conducted with pharmacists within GP practices. Written action plans for children with long ‐term conditions: A systematic review and synthesis of qualitative data
ConclusionWAPs are complex interventions but our understanding of their use and value in children with LTCs is limited. WAPs need to meet the needs of users who have different requirements/levels of understanding and confidence according to their different roles. Future research into WAPs needs to be both disease and context‐specific. (Source: Health Expectations)

The impact of using peer interviewers in a study of patient empowerment amongst people in cancer follow ‐up
Discussion and conclusionsThe uniqueness and complexity of qualitative interviews made it difficult to provide any firm conclusions about the impact of having peer interviewers on the research outcomes, and the benefits identified from the analysis mostly related to the process of the interviews. Benefits from using peer interviewers need to be considered alongside relevant ethical considerations, and available resources for training and support. (Source: Health Expectations)

A three ‐goal model for patients with multimorbidity: A qualitative approach
ConclusionBased on the perspectives of clinicians, we expanded the concept of goal‐oriented care by identifying a three‐level goal hierarchy. This model could facilitate collaborative goal‐setting for patients with multiple long‐term conditions in clinical practice. Future research is needed to refine and validate this model and to provide specific guidance for medical training and practice. (Source: Health Expectations)

Diabetes ‐related complications: Which research topics matter to diverse patients and caregivers?
ConclusionsThis study confirmed the importance of research topics among a population of people living with or caring for someone with diabetes. Findings from this study were used to inform the vision for Diabetes Action Canada—a pan‐Canadian Strategy for Patient‐Oriented Research (SPOR) Network on diabetes and its complications. Patient ‐initiated recruitment for clinical research: Evaluation of an outpatient letter research statement
ConclusionThe analysis suggests that simple, single‐solution approaches such as including research statements in outpatient letters are unlikely to be sufficient to significantly facilitate patient‐initiated recruitment. Recruitment efforts need to take into consideration the diversity of patient constituencies including the reasons they seek health care, and how patients can meaningfully access information (research literacy).
