Endometriosis: A review of the diagnosis and pain management
Publication date: Available online 9 July 2015 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy Author(s): Wei-Wei Wee-Stekly, Cynthia Chia Yng Kew, Bernard Su Min Chern Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of endometrial tissues outside the uterus. It affects females in their reproductive years, and may be an estrogen-dependent condition. The estimated prevalence of endometriosis in the general population is as high as 10%, and is increased in females with subfertility. The diagnosis of endometriosis is usually suspected clinically and confirmed by transvaginal ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging ...

Clinical outcomes of single-incision sling procedure (MiniArc)
Conclusions In conclusion, a Miniarc and Monarc exhibit similar mechanism of action with comparable subjective and objective clinical outcomes. Majority of urethral impingement was noted in the Miniarc group. A higher MUCP (maximum urethral closure pressure), longer resting Ul, and shorter resting Us suggested these observations. Postoperative ultrasonographic evaluation may give a promising future perspective for the evaluation of sling tension. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

Vaginal vault metastasis – The new enigma in port site recurrences in gynecological laparoscopic surgeries
Conclusion Apart from other port recurrences, vaginal vault is a potential site of recurrence. But it is more significant as it results in greater morbidity and carries a worse prognosis than other port recurrences. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

A novel hysteroscopic pattern of microvascular architecture in uterine endometrioid adenocarcinoma: Initial clinical experience
Conclusion Our conclusion is that patients with the glomerular pattern have a high percentage of moderate or high-grade endometrioid adenocarcinoma. The glomerular sign may provide information on preoperative pathohistology and decrease the possibility of histology upgrade after hysterectomy. However, large series, prospective, and comparison studies are still needed. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

Fallopian tube cancer incidentally diagnosed during loaparoscopy for metastatic adenocarcinoma of unknown primary lesion: Case report
We report a case of fallopian tube cancer incidentally diagnosed during laparoscopy for metastatic adenocarcinoma of unknown primary lesion. A 60-year-old woman was found to have two intraperitoneal calcific masses, which biopsy revealed to be a metastatic malignancy with an unknown primary site. She was asymptomatic, and the primary site was not identified in the imaging evaluations, including transvaginal ultrasonography. Diagnostic laparoscopy was performed and revealed papillary tumor-like lesions in the right fallopian tube. The laparoscopy was immediately converted to laparotomy. Total hysterectomy, bilateral salping...

Accuracy of frozen section in management and prediction of lymph nodes metastasis in endometrial carcinoma
Conclusion The accuracy of FS in determining tumor grade and myometrial invasion appears to be reliable. Lymph node metastases cannot be adequately predicted by intraoperative FS. We recommend complete surgical staging for all patients with endometrial cancer. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

Efficacy of short-term training for acquisition of basic laparoscopic skills
Conclusion Use of the virtual reality laparoscopic surgery simulator allowed us to objectively assess residents’ acquisition of basic laparoscopic skills. We found that residents more readily acquired dominant-hand skills during their 2-month training. We conclude that our training system serves as an effective initial step toward acquisition of the necessary laparoscopic surgery skills, even though residents do not actually perform surgeries during the training period.
