Effect of different ectopic pregnancy treatments on cryopreserved embryo transfer outcomes: A retrospective cohort study
Conclusion There was no significant difference among EP treatment methods with regard to their impacts on CET outcomes in women with EP histories. Bilateral tubal ligation or removal surgery can decrease the miscarriage rate after CET. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

How the silent mentor program improves our surgical level and safety and nourishes our spiritual life
Publication date: Available online 1 February 2017 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy Author(s): Mun-Kun Hong, Tang-Yuan Chu, Dah-Ching Ding We briefly share our experience of using the silent mentor program in the Medical Simulation Center (MSC) of Tzu Chi University (TCU), Hualien, Taiwan, to improve our minimally invasive surgical level and patient's safety. The silent mentor program, established in 2000 by the Department of Anatomy of TCU, is a pioneering clinical skill training program based on unembalmed bodies. This program provides three valuable advantages for surgery. The first is the comprehen...

Review of transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery in gynecology
Publication date: Available online 20 January 2017 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy Author(s): Naoyuki Yoshiki Recent technologic advances in endoscopic instrumentation and optics have allowed the development of a less invasive alternative to conventional laparoscopic surgery. During the past decade, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) flourished in the field of general surgery, and it has emerged as a new concept of minimally invasive surgery. NOTES yields access to the abdominal cavity without any incisions on the abdominal wall (scarless surgery), and the natural orifices of the bo...

Higuchi's transverse incision and a modification of this method for minimally invasive surgery
Conclusion Higuchi's modified transverse incision ensures a sufficient visual field, yields an excellent esthetic outcome, and is safe, suggesting the potential use of this method for RPS. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

A case of placental site trophoblastic tumor complicating nephrotic syndrome in which hysteroscopic biopsy did not yield a definitive diagnosis
We present a case of PSTT complicating nephrotic syndrome. A 32-year-old woman experienced irregular menstrual bleeding and lower extremity edema 18 months after delivery. She was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome and exaggerated placental site based on the hysteroscopic biopsy results. During follow-up, transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound showed an enlarged uterus filled with a hypervascular mass. Positron emission tomography–computed tomography showed diffuse accumulation in the entire uterus. The patient was diagnosed with PSTT only after total hysterectomy. Postoperatively, serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin dec...

Risk of spilling cancer cells during total laparoscopic hysterectomy in low-risk endometrial cancer
Conclusion We conclude that fallopian tubal cauterization is sufficient to provide protection from the dissemination of cancer cells into the peritoneal cavity at the time of TLH for endometrial cancers in early stages. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

Application of single-incision transvaginal mesh in a woman undergoing peritoneal dialysis and suffering from refractory advanced stage pelvic organ prolapse
Conclusion Patients with POP at an advanced stage during peritoneal dialysis who failed to be treated conservatively may require a surgical intervention. Uterus-sparing transvaginal mesh was a feasible minimal invasive option. (Source: Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy)

Expectant management for abdominal pregnancy
Publication date: Available online 13 December 2016 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy Author(s): Koji Yasumoto, Yukiyasu Sato, Yusuke Ueda, Takuma Ito, Hiromi Kawaguchi, Masataka Nakajima, Akira Muneshige This is the first English language report describing the expectant management for abdominal pregnancy. The patient was a 31-year-old multiparous woman who was transferred to our hospital on suspicion of ectopic pregnancy. Her serum human chorionic gonadotropin was positive, and a poorly-vascularized mass measuring about 4 cm was visualized in the Douglas pouch by transvaginal ultrasonography, as w...

Microcystic stromal tumor resected by laparoscopic surgery
We report a case of microcystic stromal tumor (MCST) resected by laparoscopy. MCST is a very rare ovarian tumor with distinctive microcystic features and a characteristic stromal tumor immunophenotype. The present case was a 26-year-old woman who underwent laparoscopic surgery for suspected endometrial cyst of the left ovary. The mass was 8 cm in size and contained bloody fluid, and after attempting cystectomy, we eventually performed left salpingo-oophorectomy with a final postoperative pathological diagnosis of MCST. Although MCST has not yet been associated with malignancy, there are reported links to mutations in the ...

Complete androgen insensitivity syndrome and anti-M üllerian hormone levels before and after laparoscopic gonadectomy
We report cases of two sisters with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS). A complete female appearance, blind-ending vagina, and testes in the pelvis are characteristics of CAIS. Prophylactic laparoscopic gonadectomy was performed in both cases. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level is known to be very high in patients with CAIS; AMH is secreted by Sertoli cells and testosterone suppresses the secretion. In our cases, serum AMH was very high before gonadectomy and dramatically decreased after gonadectomy. AMH could be the diagnostic feature for patients with CAIS.
