Relationship between field dependence-independence and the g factor: What can problem-solving strategies tell us?
Publication date: March 2014 Source:Revue Européenne de Psychologie Appliquée/European Review of Applied Psychology, Volume 64, Issue 2 Author(s): L. Rémy , P.-Y. Gilles Introduction Field dependence-independence (FDI) has been the focus of a great deal of research. However, it is generally studied in relation to either personality or the g factor, with far fewer studies of the interconnections between FDI, the g factor and problem-solving strategies. Objective Our first aim was to study the relationship between FDI and the g factor. Our second was to explain this relationship by analysing problem-solving strate...

Besoin de cognition, besoin d’évaluer, besoin de clôture : proposition d’échelles en langue française et approche socio-normative des besoins dits fondamentaux
Conclusion Les résultats sont discutés dans une perspective socio-normative. Introduction and objectives After leading a validation of questionnaires about three fundamental needs in French language (need for cognition, closing and evaluation), we tested in two studies that fundamental needs could be subjected to social constraints and could be considered differently than exclusively like stable personality characteristics and motivational drivers of action. Method Using the paradigm of judges (study 1) and the paradigm of identification (study 2), the results argue for a normative approach, at least as regards the n...

Health and well-being at work: The hospital context
Conclusion In this study, the use of both quantitative and qualitative assessments allows having some elements to analyze the quality of working conditions in the hospital. The effect of autonomous and controlled motives on eating dysregulation: Implications for individuals classified as underweight, overweight or obese
Conclusion The effect of controlled motives on dieting behaviour is dependent upon BMI and therefore varies across underweight, overweight, and obese individuals. The implications of controlled motives and external pressures to watch one's diet are discussed. (Source: European Review of Applied Psychology)

Exploring people's willingness to bike using a combination of the theory of planned behavioural and the transtheoretical model
Conclusion This study suggests that the combination of TPB and the TTM is useful when trying to understand modal choice. However, the study strongly argues that it is the multidimensional nature of the constructs, which is interesting rather than purely focusing on separate ones. It also suggests that even if short-term benefits are strongly related to the process of change, negative ones need to be addressed and taken seriously if we want people to persist with their new behaviour. Implications of the current findings for the description of people at the different stages are discussed. (Source: European Review of Applied Psychology)

Alcohol interlocks and prevention of drunk-driving recidivism
Conclusions The application of Prochaska et al.’s model to the follow-up of AIP programs would be more fruitful in the future if psychologists are involved in the program. As we have seen, medical/psychological monitoring may not have been strong enough in the program studied here. (Source: European Review of Applied Psychology)

An examination of the relationships between cannabis use, driving under the influence of cannabis and risk-taking on the road
Conclusion Since cannabis usage and DUIC appear to be related to an overall reckless style of driving, it is proposed that public safety policies should be more holistic, simultaneously targeting multiple on-road dangerous behaviours for intervention. (Source: European Review of Applied Psychology)

Introduction Previous studies have shown that the schedule of conditions orientates the designers’ activity. It leads them to generate and consider more constraints linked to the prescribed ones (provided in the sche...
