Timothy Schowalter Elected as Next Vice President-Elect of Entomological Society of America

ESA Statement on the National Museum of Brazil
Annapolis, MD; September 5, 2018 —We at the Entomological Society of America were deeply saddened at the tragic destruction of the National Museum of Brazil (Museu Nacional) in a fire this weekend. We are grateful that no serious injuries occurred, but the same cannot be said for the deep repository of irreplaceable scientific an d historical treasures that were housed there. Newly Certified Corps of Entomologists Boosts U.S. Response Capacity for Vector-Borne Disease Outbreaks

ESA Statement on “Scarabs” Newsletter
Annapolis, MD; July 19, 2018 —Like so many of our members in the insect science community, we at the Entomological Society of America were disturbed to learn recently of the highly inappropriate imagery and language used in a long-running newsletter published by a group of entomologists specializing in scarab beetles. Such c ommunication that objectifies and demeans people has no place in science and runs counter to ESA’s stated principles and commitment to advancing inclusion and equality within the entomological profession.
