Global Warming May Affect Pesticide Effectiveness
Annapolis, MD: November 30, 2015 -- The effectiveness of an important mosquito-fighting insecticide may be impaired by global warming, according to a recent study in the Journal of Medical Entomology. Two researchers from Montana State University, graduate student Shavonn Whiten and Dr. Robert Peterson, have shown that permethrin becomes less effective at killing the yellowfever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) as temperatures increase. read more (Source: ESA News)

Colony Collapse Disorder Eight Years Later

Entomologists Report on Economic Benefits of Neonicotinoids

Three new chigger mite species discovered in Taiwan
Annapolis, MD; October 5, 2015 -- Three new species of trombiculid mites, also known as "chiggers," have been discovered in Taiwan, according to a new paper published in the Journal of Medical Entomology. Researchers describe three new species of fruit flies
Annapolis, MD; October 2, 2015 -- Acanthiophilus is a genus of fruit flies that infest plants of the tribe Cardueae (thistles) within the family Asteraceae. Members of this genus live in Africa, the Canary Islands, Europe, and Asia. Some species of Acanthiophilus are potential biological control agents of weeds, and others are serious pests to economically important crop plants.
